As a 54-year-old who has only recently re-entered the mining industry at HVO, I am grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me, not just as an individual but as father, grandfather, and partner. This opportunity has given myself and my family the security that we have been searching for, and the continuation project secures my families future. I, like thousands of other employees, contractors, and suppliers of HVO, are all incredibly dependant upon the continuation of this project. Without it, our futures are far less brighter than they are today!

I have been a resident of this area for over 50 years and have seen how the various industries in the Hunter Valley coalfields can successfully co-exist to the mutual benefit of all. The coal market will decline through resource depletion over the coming years encouraging successful investment and transition to alternate power sources, but we are not in that position yet. The HVO continuation project allows the time for genuine advancements in power generation to be made that take alternatives from supplementary capacity to genuine replacement baseload supply. There is no logic in cutting this resource short to allow lower grade coal from other countries to fill the same gap for the same timeline.

I am an employee of Hunter Valley Operation and have worked at the mine site for the past 6 years. Being one of the largest mines in the Hunter Valley they are a major employer of well over a 1000 people. These employees are manly sourced from within the Hunter Valley. The income generated from these positions is spent within the local community supporting local business’s and boosting the local economy. It’s providing a good standard of living for many. They don’t just support the younger generations but the older ones as well. Last year I turned 60 and HVO offered me a permanent position. This now means for my family that depts can be paid and hopefully when we retire we will not be relying on a governmental pension to survive. This is one of the many little things that the continuation of Hunter Valley Operations North and South projects will do to help the local community.
Hunter Valley Operations has an excellent environmental plan and ethics rehabilitating every piece of ground it can around the mine site. It also has a huge dedication to retaining and looking after the history and historical sites it has. It has many procedures in place that must be followed by all employees for looking after the environment and surrounding communities from the impact the mine may have on them. The royalties paid to the government by the mine go towards improving our local roads, schools, hospitals and communities. They also donate many dollars into our community supporting local schools, sporting clubs, charities etc.
It will be a huge loss to the community in funding and project support and employees causing unemployment, mental health and standard of living issues if the continuation projects for Hunter Valley Operations do not proceed.

Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) is a long standing organization with a strong and reputable community supporter in the Hunter Valley. HVO is a leader in Mining with a strong commitment to environmental consciousness and rehabilitation demonstrating over the past 70 years of working with pastoral and community members to leave mined areas better than originally found.
HVO's future plans will deliver NSW vital and significant revenue to the state and local communities while providing employment for thousands of Hunter Valley workers. To deny the growth expansion would be catastrophic the for Global Environments given their energy coal is one of the cleanest in the world.

Due to the ongoing financial benefits to not only the Hunter Valley and its residents but also the Federal, State, and a local governments within Australia I wholeheartedly support that this project to continue on into the future.
My husband is a coal train driver, and my children are indirect employees of this industry. We need to save the futures for our children to maintain employment for generations to come and for this to end would be an economic disaster. Thousands of people are not only direct, but indirect employees of this industry and the local economy would be severely affected, if this operation were to cease.
The future of this country depends on coal production and we cannot afford to lose this industry despite what the labour left/and green governments say.
My 85 year old father was also part of this industry as are many of my family and friends, in these economic uncertain times this is one industry we can depend upon for reliability and employment right into the future.
We need coal for a sustainable future.. climate change is a nonsense se and has never been proven. Please keep this going for the sake of this country’s future.

I am writing to lodge my support for the HVO North Open Cut Continuation Project.
This is a sensible modification to an approved project that has been designed so our community can enjoy a much-needed economic boost without negatively impacting other local industries and land uses.
I support because the project will deliver important benefits for the local community, including continuing up to 1500 local jobs in addition to many more indirect jobs and stimulus for local businesses.
These benefits will make a substantial long-term difference to the communities in the Upper Hunter and to NSW.
The modification sought does not change the mining method, nor increase the coal production rates.
Our community needs a diverse economy, and this can help make sure our economy prospers for decades to come.
Regards

I am in support of the proposal as coal mining is the lifeblood of the Hunter Valley. It is one of the oldest industries in the valley and continue to ensure the survival of several Hunter Valley towns. Without the coal mines the flow on affect to these towns would cease and in several cases the towns would no longer be able to support themselves.
