I strongly object to the proposed location of the HISC due to its predicted negative impacts both environmentally and socially. The ovals are already used for sports and recreation daily, why is indoor sport being prioritised?

I agree that the old basketball stadium needs to be replaced and that basketballers need a better facility .. just not where it is currently proposed.
Flooding, lack of parking, traffic congestion, loss of green space, loss of use for Lambton high school, very little discussion with locals, poor planning. These are the reasons I oppose this site.

This project needs to be stopped now - it is a waste of public money continuing down this track when there are so many issues! Loss of green space for the whole community but especially Lambton High school, significant flooding and parking issues that will impact the local community, and extremely poor community consultation.

As a local resident raising small children this project greatly concerns us for many reasons including:
- parking is a nightmare already, just with games at MacDonald jones stadium. If there was an accident or fire, a firetruck or ambulance would not be able to access our house if both sides of the street are full of cars, which they always are during peak periods. This project will only increase this traffic and parking issues. It also causes visibility issues with reversing and turning and I fear my children’s safety if they are riding their bikes on the footpath during this time
- as a young family with a small backyard of our own we love that park across the road. My kids play soccer, so running, play cricket on that field. They learnt to walk and run on that grass. It’s so important to have green space.
- this is also a flood prone zone and this infrastructure will only worsen the flood situation. The minimal changes proposed do not address that significant climate risk posed. And it certainly scares us.
- we love basketball and are current members. But there is other viable options for a better court.

To Whom It May Concern,
Re: Support for Newcastle Basketball HISC SSDA Development
I am writing as a parent and active member of the Newcastle community to express my full support for the proposed HISC development. The current stadium, while having served our community for many years, is now outdated and no longer meets the needs of children, families, and local sports clubs. Its limited facilities and aging infrastructure often restrict opportunities for year-round participation, particularly during adverse weather, which can be disheartening for young athletes and their families.
The new HISC represents an exciting opportunity for Newcastle to invest in a modern, multipurpose sporting hub that will benefit the entire community. Beyond basketball, the facility will support a variety of indoor sports, including futsal, pickleball, volleyball, netball, and tennis. This versatility ensures that the stadium will be a central hub for physical activity, community gatherings, and social engagement, enriching the lives of residents across all age groups.
One of the most critical advantages of the new facility is its increased court capacity. Too often, children are turned away due to a lack of available courts, denying them the chance to participate in organised sports. Expanding the facility ensures that more young people can enjoy regular access to physical activity, fostering a love of sport while promoting healthy lifestyles.
The broader benefits of the HISC cannot be overstated. Access to modern, inclusive, and accessible sporting facilities strengthens community health, encourages youth engagement, and provides pathways for talent development in local sports. Additionally, the social connections formed through sport create stronger, more cohesive communities, where individuals of all backgrounds can come together, learn, and grow.
In conclusion, the proposed HISC development is more than just a sporting facility—it is an investment in the wellbeing, health, and future of Newcastle. I strongly support this project and encourage its approval, confident that it will provide lasting benefits for our children, families, and the wider community.
Thank you for considering my submission.
Yours sincerely
