I support the application. We need better basketball facilities in Newcastle. The large number of registrations and kids wanting to play show the need and interest in basketball.

This believe this complex will bring positivity to not only newcastle but surrounding communities. As a family who travels from lake macquarie regularly for club and representative basketball games, nbl1 and lower age brackets championships basketball has become my child's favourite thing in the world for the current and past 4 years.

Basketball has changed his entire outlook on life for the better from being more socials to even trying to improve his school grades for better potential opportunities without the sport as he gets older.

Without a complex in newcastle this would have never happened. I'm sure many family's have similar story's

As parents we have always made life long friends at the current newcastle basketball facility.

Our child has made friends that's will also last a life time.

It's scary to imagine without a facility family's and children could miss such a positive opportunity we have witnessed and been apart of.

It also scares me that the negativity I have heard upon this comes from many "bandwagon" opinions and even very uneducated approaches believing a new area for sport in newcastle will have negative effects.

Removing a grass field to create this area is not a large sacrifice in my opinion.

I can take my son to play in a field in almost every town in the Central Coast, lake macquarie and NEWCASTLE.

I'd love to hear where all these indoor basketball facility's are located that host such amazing culture, friendships and competitions are within the newcasw region?

A negative iv heard is parking? Currently with newcastle basketball stadiums small car park in the last 4 - 5 years I have never struggled to park within its grounds...

Sure grass fields are nice, but is it worth stripping all I have mentioned above from many many family's and children?

Does the current field hold such life changing positivity?

TH

THE COMPLEX WILL BE A GREAT ADDITOIN FOR NEWCASTLE AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITYS !

I will even add with basketball we have travels the state meeting new people. Enjoying basketball related holidays that would not be possible without newcastle basketball.

I am writing as a 17-year-old student from Newcastle to express my strong support for the proposed HISC SSDA development. Even though I am not currently playing basketball, I have played in the past, and I know first-hand how important having the right facilities is for young people and families in our community.

The current stadium is outdated and no longer meets the needs of the growing number of children and families who want to play sport year-round. Basketball is a sport that doesn’t stop for the weather, but unfortunately, too often the facilities do. A modern stadium would give kids a reliable place to train, play, and connect every week of the year.

The new HISC would be much more than just a basketball venue. It will provide space for futsal, pickleball, volleyball, netball, tennis, and other sports. That flexibility means the whole community can benefit, not just one group. By increasing the number of available courts, the HISC will also make sure children are not turned away because of limited space—something that happens far too often today.

Beyond the courts, the benefits reach much further. A modern indoor sports centre will support community health and wellbeing, create safe spaces for youth engagement, and open up pathways for talented players to progress. It will also strengthen inclusion and accessibility, making sport available to everyone, regardless of age or ability. Most importantly, it will help build stronger social connections across Newcastle.

For all these reasons, I support the HISC development and believe it will become one of the most important community assets for our city.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing as a parent and community member to express my strong support for the proposed Hunter Indoor Sports Complex (HISC) development at Newcastle Basketball. For many years, families across Newcastle have relied on the existing stadium, which is now well past its prime. The current facilities are outdated, overcrowded, and unable to meet the needs of our growing community. A new complex is urgently needed to ensure children and families have a safe, modern venue to enjoy sport year-round, regardless of the weather.

The proposed HISC would be far more than just a basketball stadium. It will provide a home for a wide range of indoor sports, including futsal, pickleball, volleyball, netball and even indoor tennis. This multi-purpose design ensures that people of all ages and abilities have access to facilities that promote active, healthy lifestyles. For parents like myself, it represents an invaluable community hub where our children can try new sports, build friendships, and stay engaged in positive activities.

One of the greatest challenges at present is court availability. Too often, children are turned away from programs or teams because there simply aren’t enough courts to accommodate demand. The HISC will change this by increasing capacity and ensuring no child misses out on the opportunity to play, learn, and grow through sport.

The benefits of this project extend well beyond the games themselves. Improved access to quality facilities helps foster youth engagement, supports talent development pathways, and provides inclusive spaces where everyone—regardless of background, gender, or ability—can participate. It also strengthens the fabric of our community by creating a shared place for families to gather, connect, and be active together.

In short, the HISC is not only an investment in infrastructure but an investment in the health, wellbeing, and future of Newcastle. I wholeheartedly support this development and encourage its approval for the benefit of current and future generations.

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed development of the new Hunter Indoor Sports Centre (HISC) and the corresponding Newcastle Basketball HISC SSDA. As a parent and active community member, I believe this project represents a vital step forward for our city, offering long-term benefits not only for local basketball enthusiasts but for all residents of Newcastle.
Currently, our community relies on a basketball stadium that is outdated and increasingly inadequate for the growing demand of youth sports. The existing facility is unable to accommodate the needs of the next generation of players, and the limitations it places on year-round training and competition are particularly concerning. During colder months or inclement weather, our children and families face the frustrating reality of being unable to practice or participate in the sports they love. A new, modern indoor facility would remove this barrier, providing the space and infrastructure necessary to foster year-round participation regardless of the season.
The expansion of court capacity is another key advantage of the proposed HISC. With more courts available, fewer children will be turned away due to a lack of space, offering greater opportunity for participation and skill development. In turn, this will allow our young athletes to develop their talents and pursue sporting pathways that might otherwise be out of reach. Additionally, the greater availability of facilities will ensure that no young person is limited by external factors such as facility access or scheduling conflicts.
Beyond the immediate sporting benefits, this new facility will play a pivotal role in strengthening the social fabric of Newcastle. By providing a safe and inclusive environment for people of all ages and backgrounds, the HISC will promote youth engagement and create a strong sense of belonging. It will also serve as a venue where families can gather, watch their children play, and connect with others in their community. The positive ripple effect of this type of engagement can only strengthen the bonds within Newcastle and contribute to its overall well-being.
Thank you for considering my submission. I look forward to seeing Newcastle become an even stronger and more vibrant community through this development.
