It is a safe, environmentally responsible plan that provides any hundreds of jobs to the region as well as the vital resources we still need to operate as a developed country. Review the positives of this plan and the record of work at Ulan West and I’m sure you will come to the same conclusion - this plan should be approved.

I am currently employed at Ulan Coal Mine, and have relocated my family and live locally in Mudgee this was all possible due to the Coal Mine. I fully support the proposed Mod 8 expansion. This project represents an important opportunity to secure long-term employment for local workers and maintain the economic stability that our region depends on. The expansion will allow Ulan to continue operating efficiently by making better use of the infrastructure and systems that are already in place, ensuring the mine can remain productive and competitive for years to come.

Coal mining continues to be a vital industry for our community, providing dependable jobs, supporting local businesses, and contributing significantly to Australia’s export market and energy supply. Ulan has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to safe, responsible, and environmentally conscious operations. I believe the Mod 8 proposal reflects the same high standards and will help provide certainty for families and businesses who rely on the mine’s ongoing operation.

For these reasons, I strongly support the approval of this modification and see it as an essential step in protecting local jobs, strengthening the regional economy, and sustaining the long-term future of our community.

The proposed extension of the underground mine to the west, including the addition of four new longwall panels, presents a significant opportunity for both economic growth and community development. By extracting an additional 38Mt of coal, the project would create more jobs, boost local businesses, and increase tax revenues, all of which could contribute to the region’s long-term prosperity. Beyond direct economic benefits, the project has the potential to strengthen local infrastructure, support energy security, and provide financial stability for families and communities dependent on mining. If executed with stringent environmental safeguards, including measures to minimize land disturbance and reduce emissions, the extension could ensure that the environmental impact remains minimal while maximizing the benefits for the community. However, balancing these short-term advantages with a long-term vision for economic diversification and sustainability will be crucial as global energy markets continue to evolve.

Glencore deserves recognition for its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility within the mining and energy sectors. The company has taken significant strides in adopting advanced technologies and practices designed to reduce its environmental impact. This includes investments in cleaner energy solutions, water management systems, and emissions reduction programs. Glencore’s focus on minimizing the ecological footprint of its operations demonstrates a proactive approach to balancing industrial development with the protection of the planet. Additionally, their transparency in environmental reporting and engagement with stakeholders underscores their dedication to responsible resource management. Through these efforts, Glencore is setting an example for the industry, showing that it’s possible to pursue economic growth while respecting and preserving the environment for future generations. Moreover, Glencore’s commitment to land rehabilitation and biodiversity protection in its mining operations is a testament to its long-term vision for environmental stewardship. By embracing sustainable mining practices, the company is not only helping to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations but also contributing to the broader global efforts to combat climate change and preserve natural ecosystems. Glencore's approach ensures that both the local community and the environment benefit, showcasing the company's ability to integrate economic progress with environmental and social responsibility.

I believe the extension will ensure many locals will still maintain jobs as well as boosting available jobs for locals. This has a huge impact on cash flow in the local towns, in turn boosting the economy.

As a local small business, Black Rock Scheduling (BRS) fully supports the Ulan West Continued Operations Modification (Mod8). BRS has been providing mine scheduling services and software training for the Ulan Complex for more than 10 years, which reflects Glencore's commitment to engage local businesses. The proposed modification will allow the continued provision of these services, whether it be by BRS or another business. It will also provide more than 700 direct jobs (employment that keeps the local community thriving) and allow Glencore to continue its generous support of the many local charities, NFP organisations and junior sporting clubs (whose reach extends across the entire community). I sincerely hope that the DoPHI recognises the significant benefits that the modification presents and approves the proposed continuation of operations.

I support Ulan West's Continued Operations as it provides job opportunities that will allow young people to stay in the region and provides funding that improves our schools, sporting programs and local Rural Fire Services. This year, funding has already provided outdoor blinds for the Mudgee Community Preschool, Quicksmart Numeracy Training for Mudgee Public School P&C, sporting equipment for Mudgee PCYC, netball uniforms for St Matthews, and athletics equipment for Mudgee Little Athletics! Previously, funding has provided student iPads at Gulgong Public School, fit-for-purpose signage screens for the Cudgegong Communications Fire Unit, and a variety of equipment for local fire brigades. Glencore is also a major sponsor of the Mudgee Country University Centre and the Max Potential Program that empowers young adults to reach their goals. Glencore works in partnership with other mining companies to contribute significantly to Ulan Road Upgrades and important initiatives like the Doctors4MudgeeRegion program. The approval of the Ulan West Continued Operations will allow these programs to continue, provide significant employment for the region, and help to keep Mudgee the thriving community that it has become.

This is a vital part of our community. This provides many direct and indirect full-time work positions for people of Mudgee. The money earnt by these people is then returned to the local economy via other non mine related businesses. Glencore is a huge financial contributor to many non profit organisations as well.

I support the modification because my Mum works there. She is allowed to work part-time so that she is home when I am not at school. I would like my Mum to keep working there so that we can stay in Mudgee.
