I strongly support the extension of the wilpinjong pit 8 extension due to the involvement in the local Mudgee community. The employment that it brings to the Mudgee region is great.

I recently visited the Wollar town and community and received first hand information about the many impacts this mine expansion would have on the community, biodiversity, heritage, and groundwater. Below is a brief summary of the main impacts:
- This project would create further destruction of Aboriginal cultural heritage – Mod 3 will destroy 15 additional sites significant to the Wiradjuri Nation.
- the project threatens endangered species including the Large-eared Pied Bat, Eastern Cave Bat, Regent Honeyeater, and Koala.
- the mine will cause groundwater drawdown of over 20m and reduce creek flows by 21 million litres per year.
The proposed new area will take open cut mining operations to the boundary of Wollar Village. Pollution from current mining has caused significant health and well-being impacts on the Wollar community forcing many people to sell up to Peabody Energy and leave the district. The expansion will further drive people out and impact more people. I am concerned about all of these issues but the biodiversity impacts are close to my heart. Many species across NSW and the world are under threat and going extinct. We need to protect all the species we have left. The new open cut area contains the highest density of the endangered Large-eared Pied Bat and Eastern Cave Bat in the region. Two rocky hills will be removed, which are at the centre of the hotspot. These are critical breeding habitats including known maternity sites, resulting in a Significant and Irreversible Impact (SAII).
The community are more interested in transitioning Wollar as the gateway to the Central West Renewable Energy Zone. Renewable energy provides a vast amount of jobs to the community with less of the negative impacts. Renewable energy is the future while coal is a form of energy which is no longer apart of Australia Clean Energy Plan. The coal expansion here slows NSW’s transition and competes for workers needed in renewables.
I urge this project and all similar projects not be approved and that the NSW government prioritise renewable energy projects that benefit the community and local environment.

I stand behind the Wilpinjong Mine extension and the benefits to our region. Wilpinjong has provide much needed support for Mudgee Junior Rugby League over the last 15 to 20 years. At a time when the club was in financial difficulties they provide sponsorship of the clubs minis carnival which is a major fund raiser. They have continued to provide funds to assist the girls league tag teams.

I strongly support the continuation of Wilpinjong mine. It provides sustainable energy for NSW. It also provides major injections to the local economy. Tourism itself cannot support the local economy on it own. This extension provides work opportunities for my children moving into the future
