I strongly support the project being approved to help support jobs in the Hunter region. I have worked for the company for 15 years and they have been a great support to myself and my family. They are a great Australian run company that helps support the local, state and federal economy through the taxes, royalties and charitable donations they provide through the Bloomfield foundation.
The mine has been run by the Bloomfield group since 1937 and been a great member of the community. I have seen great advancement in safety and environmental records in order to mine in the most responsible manner possible. The extension of 5 extra years will help maintain the site and provide better outcomes for the wider community in the long run.
It would be a great advantage for those employed and supported by the mine to continue operations. The world will need coal to support the transition to greener energy for many years to come. The hunter has the cleanest coal in the world. If we don't mine it someone else will hence only hurting the local economy of the hunter and increasing emissions abroad.

Closure of Bloomfield Colliery will greatly impact our employees and their families who rely on full time employment, this will also have a domino effect on the local business where they spend their money.
Continued mining will create ongoing investment in the many communities' organization's Bloomfield support in the local area through the Bloomfield foundation.
Mining has been carried out at this site since the late 1850s which consist of the old underground workings, this will give opportunity to remove these to further improve the risk of potential subsidence and voids at the surface improving long term stability for the final landform which could be used for Farming or commercial development.
Thank you for the opportunity to supply this submission.
Regards Kim.

Bloomfield Colliery has a longstanding presence in the area, with mining activities dating back to the late 1850s and continuous operations since 1937 . The company employs many personnel across various roles . Approval of this modification ensures the continuation of these jobs and supports local businesses.
Environmental management is a priority for Bloomfield. The company conducts real-time and predictive environmental monitoring to minimize impacts on local communities, with results reviewed and reported annually . Additionally, the proposed modification includes beneficial changes to the post-mining landform, such as reducing the size of the final void and rehabilitated slope angles, enhancing the land's suitability for cattle grazing.
Modification 5 balances economic, environmental, and community interests. It ensures the continuation of responsible mining practices, supports local employment, and enhances post-mining land use. I urge the Department of Planning and Environment to approve this modification.

I am writing to formally object to the proposed land clearance associated with the Bloomfield Colliery, which would result in the destruction of critical native habitat, specifically Lower Hunter Ironbark and Spotted Gum forest. These forest types provide essential habitat for threatened species, including the critically endangered Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor) and Regent Honeyeater (Anthochaera phrygia).
These birds are already facing significant threats from habitat loss and fragmentation. The area targeted for clearance plays a vital role in their survival, supporting foraging and potentially nesting activities.
I am particularly concerned that this proposal overlooks the proximity of active conservation breeding programs conducted by Taronga Zoo and many dedicated volunteeers, which have released juvenile Regent Honeyeaters within 10 km of this site. Destroying habitat so close to release areas directly undermines these costly, expert-led recovery efforts, and risks pushing these species closer to extinction.
I urge the decision-makers to consider the long-term environmental impact of this proposal and reject the clearance of this ecologically important area.
Sincerely,
Sue Stanley

• The habitat to be cleared is endangered woodland Central Hunter Ironbark-Spotted Gum-Grey Box Forest.
• This woodland is significant habitat for foraging & nesting of the Regent Honeyeaters in the hunter region
• The recovery team for the regent Honeyeater have been releasing Zoo bred birds to supplement the wild population. The last 2 major release sites have been with in 12km of the Bloomfield site.

The Regent Honeyeater is currently being bred in captivity at Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney for release in the Hunter to ensure its survival, however, if there are no specific habitats left for this bird and other endemic fauna, then we yet again loose another species to extension.

The proposal to decimate 50 + hectares of bush containing protected species of Lower hunter spotted Iron bark trees should not be allowed. These trees provide important habitat for other endangered species such as Swift parrots, Regent Honeyeaters, powerful owls.

An important point I would like to make is that while many people in the community benefit from Bloomfield it is surprising the large number of them that are not aware that Bloomfield is a working mine or even of the mine's location. I find it complimentary that a business such as Bloomfield can operate in our community and carry out its production relatively unnoticed. I live 3.3km from the mine site and did not know of its existence until I was offered employment with the Bloomfield group. Bloomfield still has a great deal to offer our community and surrounding areas and I hope it continues well into the future.
