The Bloomfield Group is a very important part of the Newcastle - Hunter area. The amount of families it supports, the amount of other companies it uses to support itself, the amount of support it gives to local communities and charities. Its integral for this project to continue.

I support the Bloomfield Colliery Continuation Project, which proposes to extend mining operations until the end of 2035 without increasing production, equipment, or infrastructure. My understanding is this extension will ensure ongoing employment for workers, support local businesses, and contribute significantly to the NSW and Australian economies through taxes and royalties. My understanding is also that the project allows for continued community investment and improvements to the final landform for post-mining land use and provides an opportunity to address historic underground workings, improving long-term land stability.

Great opportunity for the local community in the form of continued employment royalties and support to local charities.
As a local resident living less the 10 km from the mine I have received no noise dust or vibration disturbances over the past 10 years living in east Maitland.
The plan to mine old underground workings from the 1850s would increase the safety of the area and is surrounds from mine subsidence.

This project will provide employment, continued investment in local businesses, remove the potential for mine subsidence by mining the old underground workings and improve the final landform. Bloomfield has been a great contributor to the local community for a long time and this project will allow the Bloomfield group to continue this relationship into the future.

Bloomfield Colliery has been a critical longstanding contributor to the local community. Aside from the direct financial benefits to employees, contractors, and upstream/downstream suppliers and customers, the additional taxation revenue that this modification will include allows for many positive externalities to the local and national community. As a testament to how the mine operates, many of the locals that I speak to have no idea that there is even a mine in the area, suggesting that noise and other potential environmental challenges are being successfully managed.
In a time where many people are struggling to find stable and rewarding employment, this project will provide opportunities to many local community members through the company's apprenticeship program, graduate programs, and professional development opportunities available to employees.
Aside from the many direct financial and social benefits that the mine provides, I am proud to have the Bloomfield Group as a part of my community because of the work it does in terms of support and sponsorship of local community and charitable organisations through the Bloomfield Foundation.

The Proposed Modification Will Also Improve The Final Landform Which Is Beneficial By Reducing The Size Of The Final Void ,Reducing Rehabilitated Slope Angles For Final Land Use, ie Cattle Grazing Etc

Hi
My name is Mark Nolan and I am employed at Bloomfield Colliery and as an Opencut Examiner. I have been employed here for the last 34 years. I wish to make a submission to lend my support to the Mod 5 application for the extension to mining at Bloomfield Colliery.
The modification is beneficial to the mine, the local community of the lower Hunter, the state of NSW and Australia. It has provided continuous employment for all the company employees, contractors and supply companies. Royalities will be collected by the State Government and taxation will be collected by the Federal Government. These taxes are important for the funding of all essential services as well as critical infrastructure projects.
The company also contributes greatly the local community through the Bloomfield Group Foundation which will continue with the extension approval period if accepted.
The modification also gives the benefit of an improved final landform in that it will reduce the size of the final void. It also gives the opportunity to address some legacy issues on the site. Some very shallow underground workings will also be mined and rehabilitated thereby reducing the risk of subsidence and improving the long-term stability of the final landform.
Specialist technical studies have been completed indicating that the continuation of operations can meet the requirement for air quality, noise and blasting. A biodiversity offset strategy also addresses the ecological impacts associated with the disturbance of vegetation.
Bloomfield Colliery has always been a good neighbor to surrounding residents and this will continue. Importantly, the modification involves no increase in production levels.
I can see no reason why this modification should not be approved. It is in the best interests of not only its employees but contractors, suppliers, the local community as well as both state and federal governments. The Bloomfield Group is a privately owned company operating for the past 88 years. This extension to mining would be considered very small in comparison to Hunter Valley Standards but would make a huge impact to many. I look forward to hearing a positive outcome in this matter.

Submission in Support of the Bloomfield Mine Extension
My name is Neville Jukes, and I was the Managing Director of PJ Welding Pty Limited for 45 years, having
recently retired due to health reasons. I speak from the heart when I say I am deeply passionate about The
Bloomfield Group and what they represent.
The Bloomfield Group has supported my family and my business for over 50 years. During particularly
difficult times, when PJ Welding was reduced to its “bare bones” and close to shutting down, Bloomfield
consistently stepped in with enough work to help us stay afloat. Their ongoing support has been instrumental
to our survival.
Today, PJ Welding employs over 20 people, including some who have been with us for more than 40 years,
as well as newer members of the team. When a local company went into receivership several years ago,
some of their former employees came to us seeking work. In an effort to give them stability, I reached out to
Bloomfield, who responded by providing additional work to help us bring them on board. Without that
support, many of those individuals may have ended up reliant on unemployment benefits.
We feel a strong obligation to our long-term staff—many of whom would struggle to find alternative
employment due to their age. The continuation of mining at Bloomfield would provide them with the
opportunity to work with dignity through to retirement.
Several of our employees have spent their entire working lives servicing The Bloomfield Group—from
apprenticeships to middle age. Their livelihoods depend almost entirely on the continuation of work at
Bloomfield Mine.
Two of our apprentices have gone on to win the Hunter Valley Apprentice of the Year award, thanks in part
to the diverse and valuable experience, they gained working with Bloomfield. The company’s strong focus
on safety, training, and environmental awareness has helped us raise the standard of all the tradespeople
we’ve trained.
Beyond business, The Bloomfield Group is a shining example of corporate citizenship. They support vital
community initiatives, including the Hunter Medical Research Institute—a cause close to my heart, as both
my wife and I are cancer survivors. They also support the Salvation Army, Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off
the Streets, Steamfest, and numerous other local organisations.
I’ll never forget a story shared at the funeral of Bloomfield’s Managing Director. The minister revealed that
Bloomfield had made a significant donation to help restore Christ Church Cathedral after the 1989
earthquake—on the condition that it remain anonymous. That’s the kind of integrity this company has: they
help quietly, without seeking recognition.
The decision regarding this mining lease extension will have a profound impact on many families—
including my own. PJ Welding alone affects more than 100 people when you count employees and their
families. And when you consider the broader network of Bloomfield employees, contractors, and the ripple
effect on local businesses, you’re looking at thousands of lives.
This is not just about economics—it’s about people. Bloomfield is a proudly Australian-owned company. Its
profits and taxes stay in Australia. These are not foreign investors, but people who live and work among us,
who’ve shown time and time again their commitment to the community.
For the sake of our families, our employees, and our region, I wholeheartedly support the Bloomfield Mine
extension and urge its approval. Let’s ensure that future generations can be part of the Bloomfield legacy.
Kind regards,
Neville Jukes

As a third-generation employee, and a long term resident of East Maitland I have grown up with the mine in the area which has had little or no effect to the environment, the majority of residences don't even know there is an opencut mine in the area because of the amount of effort made to have minimize the effect on the environment and the local residence. The extension would make the final void smaller. Being a small mine, Bloomfield will have minimal effect and will maintain the employment of local people and support local businesses

An extension of mining at the Bloomfield Colliery will mean ongoing employment - for Bloomfield employees, local suppliers and local contractors which in turn supports local communities.
A five-year extension provides continued economic benefit for the State Government via royalties and taxes paid.
Continued support will also be available to local community organisations supported by The Bloomfield Group Foundation.
From the late 1850s, mining has been carried out at the Bloomfield Site. A successful extension will result in beneficial changes to the currently approved post mining landform by reducing the size of the final void and reducing rehabilitated slope angles, which benefit the final land use (cattle grazing).

The continue mining of this area will support local families and local businesses. Bloomfield group and its employees support many local charities. Bloomfield mine and its employees has shown over the years that it is always been environmentally responsible. Its rehabilitation is finished to the highest standard of any mine I have seen . I think Knowing that the mine has been here for 80 years and literally nobody knows it is here pretty much self-explanatory. Bloomfield mining Is perform to a gold Standard. They are locally owned and managed Which means the care factor is very high.
