Centennial Coal has been operating in the Lake Macquarie area for many years. They are the major supplier of coal to our local power stations who generate our electricity supply.
The employment afforded to those in our community, including myself, helps boost the economy in the local area.
Mining has caused little concern over the years in our community and has had minimal effect on the environment.
Centennial Coal supports the local community including Westpac Helicopter, Meals on Wheels at Toronto and Morisset, PCYC and local businesses. We have also held fundraising events including Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, Movember and the Alex McKinnon Foundation just to name a few.
I have six family members employed by Centennial Coal who all need jobs to support family, pay the bills and to educate our children.
The mining industry has been very good to me and I hope this continues into the future. I love my job and don't want to lose it!

The project is only seeking to provide more flexibility for the company's current operations in supplying coal to their customers and I believe would have minimal impact on the community. This project will help secure the jobs of over 500 employees, as well as providing work for local businesses which would inject must needed money onto the local economy. The company has been a part of the community for many years and has always conducted itself in a responsible manner. So I can see no reason why they should not be granted this application.

As a recently graduated mechanical engineer I was extremely fortunate to receive an offer for employment at the end of my degree. Falling resources prices and the declining manufacturing sector have meant that the job climate for engineers has changed rapidly between when I commenced and completed my degree. Things are continuing to worsen and I believe we should be encouraging development's such as that proposed by northern coal services to help bolster local investment and employment. Without this people will be forced to leave the region in search of work. Currently I live locally, shop locally and work locally and I hope to be able to continue to do this in the future.

I support the application for the Northern Coal Logistics Project. As an employee of Centennial, I know first hand that the thought and consideration put into projects is very thorough. The benefits of this project will far outweigh any perceived negatives.
The long term future of mining is hugely important in our community. It supports a great number of families, including my own, and we spend our salaries locally. It's important not to forget that, not only do jobs matter to those in the industry, but that the benefit to the greater community is immeasurable.

I would like to support this project. Centennial Coal has positive history of operating responsibly both economically and environmentally with their mines throughout the area. The Company actively supports local communities through sponsorship of events, sporting teams, supports local businesses, and of course, employ's a significant amount of people throughout the area. This major source of employment financially boosts the local economy whilst at the same, completing mining operations in a sustainable form. The company's mines supply a significant portion of coal that contributes to power NSW, and also supports local jobs further downstream in the energy market.
This project should be supported.

I am in favour of approving the proposed Northern Coal Logistics Project. The approval of this project will allow the smaller underground mines in Lake Macquarie to remain competitive in a challenging coal market.
This project if successfully approved will provide the operational flexibility to safely and efficiently process and handle various coal types which is imperative to maintain the current mine production and employement levels.
The mines in the Lake Macquarie council area contribute heavily to the local communities not only through providing direct employement but also through direct purchasing of supplies from local businesses and engaging local contractors and contracting companies. Without this approval they are unlikely to remain profitable which will directly impact the local community.

This proposal will extend the life and provide flexibility to existing coal mining operations on the western side of Lake Macquarie. It makes sense to modernise and consolidate the various existing approvals and licences under the one umbrella. The project appears to have minimal impact upon the surrounding environment and communities over and above those existing. For example the private haul road and existing rail links keeps coal haulage off public roads. Centennial Coal is a responsible employee, experienced operator and supports local organisations via sponsorship and supply of goods and services. If approved the project will support local jobs and provide economic benefits to the local area.

I support the project as a fifth generation participant in the coal mining industry in the Newcastle Central Coast region. I have seen what benefits the mines have bought to these areas and witnessed communities start and develop to what they are today because a mine was located in the area.
The proposal is all existing facilities that have been part of the community for many years and most residents would not even realise this activity was taking place the impact is so minimal.
While supporting the movement against global warming and the need to have clean coal energy or alternatives it is not appropriate to stop existing operations that bring much needed employment to the area & support power generation. Stopping current mines and putting people out of work will only mean coal is sourced from elsewhere and our standard of living is compromised. Need overall solution not just use greenhouse to stop single projects.
Many local businesses and organisations rely on these facilities for work and will be flow on affect to areas of high umemployment.
These are not major changes and as no issues have arisen over past half century I think the proposal should be approved.

Centennial's Northern Coal Logistics along with its northern mines (Mandalong, Newstan and Myuna) will continue to support a local workforce of over 500 employees and potentially over 1,000 when/if Newstan re-opens. Simscada is directly affected by this dicision.
Centennial has a good track record of operating in our local area with minimal impacts to the people that live here and the local environment.
Centennial plays a big part in supplying coal for local electricity generation and therefore keeps electricity prices down.
I spend your salary on local businesses and services and thus helping the local economy of the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie region.
This decision directly affects mine and my family's way of life, as well as my employment prospects.

The approval of this project relies on the livelihood and well being for a lot of families in the immediate area and a loss of this project would be detrimental to the local community.

I have worked for Centennial Coal for 36 years. They have a very good track record for supporting their workforce and the local communities in which we operate. If the mines do not continue this no only affects the families of employees but has an ongoing affect for all the businesses in the local areas.

I am an employee of Mandalong Mine.
The Northern Coal Logistics Project will give flexibility to markets for Mandalong and Mandalong South. Mandalong needs this flexibility to be competitive and sustainable in the current economic environment.
I live in the local area and all my four children have grown up and are being educated in the local area.
My job at Mandalong is important to my family as it provides a steady income and security for their future.
I spend my salary in the local area on items such as cars, groceries and appliances.
I am currently renovating my house and using local trade's people.
The royalties that Mandalong pay to the State Government go towards providing services such police, nurses and hospitals.
For every person that Mandalong employs, another five people benefit (eg contractors and service providers)
The Northern Coal Logistics Project is lead by a team of professional engineers and project managers.
It is important to my family and local community that this project be approved.
Yours faithfully
Col Macdonald

I have been in the mining industry since I have left school and would find it extremely difficult to find other employment if this project was not approved.

If this project did not go ahead then it would have a negative impact on the community (.e.g, employment, local shops, etc).

It would be an advantage to the whole community for this project to go ahead.

I am in favour of the Northern Coal Logistics Project. My family has lived in the area for over 50 years and believe the coal mines in the area have had none to very minimal impact on our quality of life due to mining in the area. We have however witnessed many great projects in the community supported or sponsored by the mines ( Centennial Coal in particular ) and to loose this support would be detrimental to the community.

I have heard the project's approval would create and maintain over 1000 jobs for the area which would have a huge impact on the local economy, with local businesses being supported by the project and the resources required.

Yes I work in the coal mines and I like the quality of life working in the industry has given me and my family, but i also know of many people who do not work directly in the coal mining industry who share my views. This community needs the mines to continue with the quality of life it has provided us.

I have had a long association with Centennial Coal and appreciate the efforts they have applied over those years in operating a safe and reliable operation. This operation includes the supply of coal to the local market as well as its export.
When adjustments are to be made to their operations they consult with local stakeholders and provide the safest possible means of transferring the coal from their mines to the local powere stations or the Port of Newcastle for export.
I support Centennial Coal in their development application.
