The proposal makes a lot of sense as it expands on existing infrastructure at an existing site. Newstan has greatly improved its environmental management at this site in recent time and in my experience is a very committed and focused manager of its environment and impacts it has on the region in social and environmental terms. As a resident and ratepayer of Lake Macquarie Council, I consider that the employment and other benefits generated is of significant socio-economic benefit to the people in this municipality, especially in terms of more opportunities for younger people. This project gets our full support.

With the current decline in both the mining and manufacturing industries in Australia we need to support projects like this to ensure employment levels are maintained and strengthen the central coast economy. The environmental impacts should be reviewed but the current strict policies should ensure that the impacts are minimised prior to project initiation.

hello,
i would like to voice my support for the Northern Coal Logistics Project.
This project will help allow Centennial to continue to support the local community as a major employer and supporter of local businesses and sporting and community groups.
Centennial has a proven track record in setting high standards for there environmental impact.
Approval for this project will assist local coal support industries to continue to rebuild and grow after the recent decline in the coal business, this will be beneficial to countless local families in the lake macquarie region.

Greetings,

I am writing in support of the Northern Coal Logistics Project at Mandalong / Cooranbong and Newstan. rEscan International currently supplies goods and services to Mandalong Mine, and through this it helps support not only our local Morisset based employees, but our Central Coast and Newcastle employees.

The Northern Coal Logistics Project will help to maintain and offer growth for important income streams for government and private enterprise to help support good paying, high and medium skilled local jobs in the immediate vicinity of the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie. If the project fails to proceed there would be a significant opportunity lost for businesses in the region. In a sluggish and slowing economy with an uncertain future, any and all economic activity should be encouraged where the benefits are obvious.

It also helps to ensure our local employees continue to enjoy the benefits of the coastal and lake lifestyle, enabling an improved quality of life for them and their families as opposed to other developments further inland.

Given that the project will also utilise the existing infrastructure and works, this would also limit any possible negative impact to the immediate community amenity in exchange for increased economic activity and the benefits it brings.

If you would like any further comment or have any questions about this submission please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Alan Clout

Centennial Coal employ many hundreds of people within the region and also support many local businesses, thus creating an employment flow-on. The importance of mining to the local economy, state government finances and ultimate the future of Australia's sustainability is paramount. As a local provider of accounting and advisory services to many family owned businesses who support the industry, rely on the industry and provide employment to many people in the industry we support the need for new coal mines and extension projects of mines.

The last 2 years in the Hunter Valley have shown the significance of the impact on the region of downturn in mining activities. Our hope is that governments realise the significance of projects like this and its not all too late when they do make this realisation.

I support the logistics upgrade project as detailed in the Public Submission.

I have witnessed first hand measures that have been taken to protect the environment at the Newstan site. I am of the opinion that particularly with regards to the management of water this site sets the benchmark for the mining industry.

I believe that the project could proceed with minimal impact on the environment and the community. It will also help increase the efficiency and therefore the sustainability of an important local industry.

I have worked for Centennial Coal for the past 30 years and still seek further employment with the company in the future.

Further development of Northern Coal Services Washery will ensure future employment, maintain my family's current lifestyle and keep our family home.

My salary through shopping and actively participating in sports and activities, family holidays and adventures will continue to support the local and hunter region communities and retailers.

The local contracting organisations will have the opportunity to be employed by Centennial's Northern Coal Services Washery and this would help the community to prosper and will be a great help to unemployment in the area.

I have been employed by Centennial Coal for exactly ten years and am proud of the way we operate in business and in the community. Safety for employees is the number one goal as well as a sincere effort to protect the environment. It provides much needed contract work to a myriad of local companies. Everyone agrees that we need to move towards renewable energies but the reality is that this is not happening and so we still need to dig Coal. The project being submitted will help centennial to stay in business in an efficient and environmentally aware manner and that people in the community like myself can stay employed and raise our Families and pay our mortgages. That is the reality.

Centennial Coal employs 500 people directly within it's Northen Operations, Newstan, NCS, Myuna and Mandalong. In addition our company engages many local contractors, suppliers and businesse to support our ongoing business.
The company has operated in this area for several decades in one guise or another employing generations of local families and providing support for local charities, sporting teams and schools.
We are a very community minded company and are very proud of our contribution to State and Local Government, local businesses and the community.
With the success of this project there is the very real prospect that the company could double the employment opportunities in the region and provide ongoing support for decades to come.

I would like to offer my support for the Northern Coal Logistics project. As an employee of Centennial it is important for my self and my families future that this project succeeds. I have seen the effects of recent job losses in the industry on local families and businesses. We can not afford to see any more as there are very few opportunities in the current climate.
Centennial has a good record in the local area supporting sporting and community groups as well as businesses. They operate with minimal impact to the local environment and residents.
It is important that this project is approved for the future security and well being of many local families and businesses.

As a contractor to Centennial Coal I support this submission. Over the years I have seen Centennial continually support the Western Lake Macquaire community and Businesses.
As the main haulage contractor we are continually working with Centennial to improve how we work, to reduce the impact on the local community. Examples of these changes are our main haul trucks that are Euro 5 spec which reduce emmisions and noise with trailers fitted with road friendly suspension reducing road noise.
By not allowing these projects to continue, I believe the impact to the local community will suffer greatly. Centennial employ at great deal of local people (providing traineeships) and local businesses may have reduce staff or shut without Centennial.
Centennial also give back a great deal to the area through sponsorships and also ensure the environment around the surrounding mines are well cared for and regenerated.

I have worked in the Newcastle coal industry for 30 years and with Centennial Coal for 12 years. During this time the coal industry has provided a good life for my family and many of my friends and I hope will contiune to do so. Centennial Coal has been supportive of many local clubs, groups and businesses who have benifitted from the association they have with the mining company. I feel the company has operated in a safe manner and is very considerate of its employees, the community and the environment. By approving the Northern Coal Logistics Project it would help to provide security to many people and provide employment opportunities in the future for our families and friends.I am supportive of the upgrade to the existing coal handling and processing facilities at the Newstan Colliery Surface Site, the Mandalong Mine - Cooranbong Entry Site, along with the existing private haul roads and rail loading infrastructure.
