The local power station plays a major role in generating electricity that is reliant on coal from this company. Which if this submission is not granted, it could see the drive up costs to consumers which would require the sourcing of coal from elsewhere.
The company has strong environmental beliefs that has minimal impact on the local environment. In fact this area has become a refuge for many species as they are protected from pets and human interference. This has allowed them to feel safe in these areas. They can be seen in close proximity to works in a relaxed state and in signified numbers. Most of the local population are unaware of the existence of this operation due to the way the company operates. Through regular meetings between the employer and citizens they are kept informed of how the operations are progressing and concerns are answered. The local events are attended by the employer representatives with exhibitions set up to allow local people a glimpse of the company operations.
Local and state organisation are supported by this company. Such as Rescue Helicopter, Biggest Morning Tea, sporting organisations and services,
I recommend that these things be taken into consideration when considering this application and the affects to local personnel and business if not approved.

This project will enable Centennial to remain a profitable company well into the future by improving logistics so that future throughput can be attained. This will ensure that Centennial Coal can continue to support local communities with employment, add to our state revenue and supply resources to local Power Stations. With many companies closing due to the down turn in the mining industry I consider it our duty to support this project. Centennial has a good environmental track record therefore I see no reason to object to this proposal.

Being a contractor to the mining industry, It has been disappointing to see the major downturn of the industry which in the hunter valley region has provided major employment opportunity, business growth and financial benefits for all involved including: Government areas, employers, employees, local business, community and charity organisations.
It is unfortunate that the majority of reports published and public news seen is more commonly showing the negatives associated with mining rater than focusing on the the positive attributes that mining has brought to not only this region but also the whole country.
There is a lot of work that goes into the submissions that are required for the expansions and development opportunities that mining companies propose. The legislative and safety requirements are world renowned. Therefore if the controls proposed by the companies are followed and policed with reasonable and realistic approaches, there should be no reason why these expansions should not be approved.
The local area's and the families that rely on the mining industry are suffering now and will be for some time. If new opportunities for expansion and increased employment are not realised, we could be heading towards a major crisis of mental health issues, crime and further job losses.

Centennial's Northern Coal Logistics and associated northern mines (Mandalong, Newstan and Myuna) employs a substantial workforce of over 500 employees as well as a substantial indirect workforce in the form of contractors, consultants, labour hire, equipment suppliers and local service providers to name a few. This workforce would significantly increase if Newstan re-opens.
Centennial Coal makes every effort to maintain high environmental standard. Over the past ten years I have been directly involved, as a Project Engineer, in environmental projects at both Newstan and Mandalong mine. Recent environmental projects that I have be involved in at Newstan include, clean water diversion drains, a water treatment plant, water management structures, a sound wall, rehabilitation works, revegetation works and road a drainage works. All these projects were constructed to industry best practice at a considerable cost to Centennial Coal.
Centennial's northern mines generate a range of economic benefits to both local and surrounding areas by supplying relatively low priced coal to the nearby Eraring and Delta power stations resulting in relativey lower electricity costs. Centennial's northern mines supply coal directly to the power stations via overland conveyors or private haul roads with minimal impact on the local comunity.

In the past years they have invested significant money improving the quality of water used around the mine whilst meeting their licence requirements.
They contribute much to the local community and continue a long history of supporting to the Hunter Region from the earliest days of settlement in Newcastle.
There are many people who benefit from the Northern Coal Services business from large industrial companies providing services to the site directly to small local shops supporting the families that are represented on the site daily.
The Northern Coal Services site takes coal from a number of mines and sends the coal to power stations and overseas markets and so has impact on many more people than just those who are more directly accected at the Newstan site.
With manufacturing businesses and jobs decreasing over the past 3 decades in the Newcastle region, work at such locations as this are vital to keeping the economy strong and vibrant.

I believe Centennial have shown effective environmental managment of their mines.
Also myself included & many others are financially dependant on the success of the mining operation. This success for me is wages of which a substantial portion is spent in the Lake Macquarie region & I know of numerous people whoes businesses will probably layoff workers if the mines business ceases plus many sporting & schools that benefit from thier community generosity.

Centennial Coal Northern Coal Logistics together with its northern mines provides direct employment to over 500 people in our community as well as supporting many local businesses- from purchase of equipment and mining supplies through to supporting local community events and sporting clubs. Many of these employees live locally and therefore spend, recreate and educate locally. Many indirect jobs are created and sustained through the presence of Centennial Coal's northern operations and northern coal logistics.
Centennial has a sound environmental record and has continued to invest in environmental protection measures (for example water management at Newstan) to comply with current environmental criteria. The Company is transparent about its environmental and community record and its involvement in the local community, as evidenced in its current public Sustainability Report on its website.
Centennial plays a big role in supplying coal for local electricity generation which the people of NSW need to allow us to turn the lights on in our homes and businesses.
The Project does not involve use of public roads to transport coal, a major positive benefit for local commuters and communities.
