I'm support this mine extension as I believe that the industry is a major employer in an area where other industries are either closing or moving overseas. A closure of a mine this size would have a massive impact on the community, small business' ,sporting clubs and even schools would be effected by the loss as these miners left the region looking for work and not spending their wage here.
Being a underground mine it has very little impact on the environment but a loss of this mine would have a huge impact on the community. For this reason I support the extension of Springvale coal mine.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I must object to the extension of the Angus Place Mine Extension.
This proposal will damage dozens of nationally endangered swamps, which are such a vital source of groundwater. The anticipated subsidence has the potential to completely dry out these life giving water sources. And the corollary effect will be the devastation of the surrounding ecological communities these swamps support.
In addition, the intended release of huge quantities of mine effluent each day into the Cox's River is totally insupportable. Again, this will severely threaten the remaining life forms in this already ecologically depleted river.
I urge you, please, on environmental grounds, not to approve this mine extension proposal.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Springvale Mine Extension (SSD 12_5594)

Important swamps, pagodas, and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall coal mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
The sandstone rock supporting the 41 nationally endangered swamps, including the 11 shrub swamps affected by the proposal must not be fractured.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8megalitres/day eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated by reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
The scenic western edge of the Newnes Plateau must be protected from further scarring by new roads, pipeline and electricity easements.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps must not be damaged.

Yours sincerely,

Max

I come to the Gardens of Stone as a tourist and as an artist. I find it to be an area of exceptional natural beauty teeming with biodiversity. Please do not put these fragile structures and ecosystems at risk for the risky process of coal mining which is damaging the Global atmosphere as well as local environments. Coal mining is of dwindling economic importance and our country should be turning to sustainable energy as quickly as is possible.

Springvale is a major contributor to the economic life of the area. It employs approx. 300 people who are part of our local community using schools, shops, medical facilities and recreation areas. We have already lost a major employer, the Wang Power House, another would spell doom for the community. Springvale supports the community and sporting groups. Environmentally, Springvale has a good track record. Isn't the saying "for every miner employed, there are 5 more people employed behind him" appropriate here, it is not only the miners but all those businesses supporting mining.

An area of great natural beauty like this, next to a World Heritage area, needs to be protected and looked after, not subject to coal mining.

The area's economy and employment is centred around coal mining and electricity generation and after recently suffering a major setback with the closure of Wallerawang Power Station, the loss of another major industry in the region would be devastating. I whole heartedly support the extension of Springvale Colliery to assist in maintaining employment and economical benefits to the town and surrounding villages

I am objecting to this application based on the damage that will be done. Subsidence will likely crack the pagodas and cliffs and drain the swamps.

Springvale Mine will continue to support a local workforce of over 300 employees. Springvale has a good track record of mining in our local community with minimal impacts to the people that live here and the local environment. I will be spending my salary on local businesses and services & my family has a history of living here in Lithgow which would be affected by the prospects of a job relocation.

I object to the Springvale Mine Extension Project because of the significant impacts the mining is likely to have on water quality, nationally endangered upland swamps and other important vegetation, surface cracking due to subsidence, adjacent World Heritage national parks, the important Gardens of Stone landscape and especially within the catchment of Carne Creek, which has so far not suffered the impacts of underground mining. The proposed use of longwall extraction methods is particularly objectionable as it has already been shown to damage surface drainage, swamps and pagoda rock formations.

Springvale Mine will continue to support a local workforce of over 300 employees. The mine also plays a large role in supplying coal for local electricity generation. It also plays an important part in the local sporting and community groups, which is possible by having local employment opportunities.

Springvale is a major contributor to the Lithgow, Wallerawang, Portland workforce. Both directly and indirectly with associated industries. Springvale also contributes to the welfare of the community in an educational, health and sporting way, in other words it directly supports the whole community.
The acceptance of this proposal is significantly important with regard to current coal mining industries situation.
