The failure to approve the extension would be a death knell for the operation, and the effects that this would have on the community would be far more widespread than just the 300+ coal-workers losing there employment.
The mine and its workforce are strong supporters of local sporting clubs and competitions, as well as offering support to students representing their school at a state national or international level, also supporting many local and national charities.
The local economy benefits greatly from the Springvale operation, monies earned are being put back into the community, bolstering all kinds of business' bottom line.
Cafes, Couriers Car yards, Hoteliers Hairdressers Health funds, Jewelers, junk shops, Small engineering firms etc etc. These businesses are providing employment for our community, our children.
There would be few business houses that do not rely on or at least share the wealth from Springvale and the local mining industry.
Springvale has been operating for over 20 years with minimal negative impact to the local environment, but a Great Big POSITIVE impact on the local community.
This is something worth extending.
Thank you

This extention proposal would damage important swamps, pagodas, and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region The area should, alternatively, be offered high level protection in a state conservation area. The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings. Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations. The sandstone rock supporting the 41 nationally endangered swamps, including the 11 shrub swamps affected by the proposal must not be fractured. The proposed discharge of toxic effluent must not be released into the Coxs River. The scenic western edge of the Newnes Plateau must be protected from further scarring by new roads, pipeline and electricity easements. Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. . Please require Centennial to revise this proposal and not bring destruction to Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps

I also do not like the amenity of the Newnes Plateau being spoilt by the great amount of mining surface infrastructure.

Rock formations will also be damaged.
Newnes Plateau with its unique shrub swamps should be added to the National Parks estate.

Newnes Plateau with its unique shrub swamps should be added to the National Parks estate to protect it for the future.
Don't do to Carne Creek what you did to the upper Wolgan River with your coal mining. Keep it unspoilt.

Protect Newnes Plateau by adding it to the National Parks estate.

The special biodiversity -including endangered swamps- of the Newnes Plateau should be protected.
The amenity of the Newnes Plateau is being spoilt by the endless additions to mining surface infrastructure by the three mines operating there side by side.
Let the PAC make the decision about approval.

I strongly object this project for the following reasons:
Important swamps, pagodas, and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall coal mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8megalitres/day eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated by reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
The scenic western edge of the Newnes Plateau must be protected from further scarring by new roads, pipeline and electricity easements.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps must not be damaged.
Yours sincerely,
Henry Ko

I am amazed that as I, you and your family and all the living inhabitants of this planet face climate change that I should have to make this appeal to you. We have used up most of the fresh water on this dry continent and you are even considering risking the last precious vestiges?
I am disappointed that I cannot make this appeal to you in person. Over breakfast. But this will have to do. Please work on my behalf to do the sane thing.

State Significant Project - Springvale Mine Extension (SSD 12_5594)
I am very concerned about this application. The damage that will be done is irreparable and will have extremely detrimental effects to our precious environment in this sensitive area.

The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.

If the project was not able to continue there would be a significant negative impact in our area, with many jobs lost and the economic viability of many small local businesses could be threatened.

I have lived in the Lithgow area all my life, with multiple members of my family being employed within the local coal industry over an extended period of time.
My family, along with many others, have been able to enjoy a good standard of living as a result of the local coal industry, with the majority of our earnings being spent within the local community assisting a broad range of small and medium size business's to successfully operate.
Springvale has supplied coal to the local power stations for many years utilising their overland conveyor system to transport the coal without the need to transport on public roads and the associated public and environmental risks associated with this. If the project is approved, this method of transport will be able to continue into the future.
Springvale Mine, and Centennial Coal as a company, has supported our local community for many years through various different sponsorships. If this project does not get approved it will impact greatly on the large number of locals that currently rely on this support to maintain their enjoyable lifestyle.
With the recent closure of the Wallerawang Power Station, the continued operation of Springvale Mine and the ongoing employment of its 300 employees is now even more important to the local economy within the Lithgow region. In addition to this, opportunities for our children to gain employment and remain in this area have reduced dramatically in recent years with many children who finish school having to relocate out of the district to find employment, if this project is not approved these opportunities will be reduced even further.
The Coal Industry has provided great support to the local economy within the Lithgow district for many years and without that continued support, the future for this area looks very bleak. It is therefore imperative that projects like the Springvale Mine Extension are approved so that the Coal Industry can continue to support our local area into the future.

Centennial Coal's mining activities substantially damaged threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau. We must not allow this to happen again in another pristine part of the Garden of Stones region.
These wonders of nature belong to all of us, not to a private company seeking to destroy world heritage for the sake of short term profit.
This is embarrassing for Australia and there is no excuse for for these actions of greed.
By destroying our environment we are taking away the chance of future generations to enjoy nature just as we can. We are depriving our children and the people living after us of the magical experiences that these regions offer.
This is most selfish and irresponsible. We will not be able to answer reproachful questions and justify what we did in 25 years time when any short term benefit will be long gone but the damage done by mining persists.
We must stop the mining proposal and ensure the protection of the Gardens of Stones.
Yours sincerely,
Thank you
