During this period I have seen very minimal environmental impact on the surrounding communities.
Currently Springvale Coal supports our local area by employing a local workforce of over 250 employees who put back into our community by spending their wages on local businesses and service industries. The Company and workforce also support and sponsor many sporting and community groups including local school and aged care groups by just being part of these groups or through weekly donations collected from employee's wages.

Mining supports our local business community and supports a workforce of over 300 employees.
My family and I have lived in this local area all of our lives. If mines were to close down, this area would not survive and my family, as well as many others, would be forced to relocate.

Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area. The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings. Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations. The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured. The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable. The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River. Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it. Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

As a teacher, I have seen the great benefits mining expansion can have on the local community - brining jobs to our great community and enrolments to our wonderful schools.
Springvale has generously supported our school and made countless charitable donations to us that have benefitted our students and their learning.

I am writing to propose the following points to the Springvale Mine Extension Project (SSD 12_5594):
*Important swamps, pagodas, and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall coal mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
*The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
*Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
*The sandstone rock supporting the 41 nationally endangered swamps, including the 11 shrub swamps affected by the proposal must not be fractured.
*The proposed discharge of up to 43.8megalitres/day eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated by reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
*The scenic western edge of the Newnes Plateau must be protected from further scarring by new roads, pipeline and electricity easements.
*Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal's operations impacted on it.
*Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps must not be damaged.
In addition to these environmental points I am also concerned of the impacts on other businesses in the area that are reliant on the natural environment of the Garden of Stones region being of optimal quality. Businesses such as the Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa, local tour operators such as 4x4 and adventure recreation companies, and agricultural businesses. The Lithgow region should be proud how it now has one of Australia's premier environmental based luxury resorts within the area and how the main attraction of the resort is the natural environment that the Garden of Stones region represents and how the pristine Carne Creek flows directly through the property.
Having myself worked tirelessly on restoring the damaged and polluted Wolgan River over the last few years, I personally do not wish to see Carne Creek end up in the same mess.
Yours Truly

State Significant Project - Springvale Mine Extension (SSD 12_5594)
I urge that the Sprinvale Mine extension not go ahead because of the signifcant damange it will cause to the important ecosystems in the Gardens of Stone.
This should be a conservation area and with the Angus Place mine should be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial coal has already caused irreversible damage with its existing operations and this must not be allowed to continue.
sincerely Clare Power

Coal mining is a fundamental industry which contributes to numerous areas within the Lithgow and greater community. From a workplace & industry perspective, coal mining creates numerous jobs for men and women who live within the greater area. In addition to this, the operation of such a large operation requires and promotes numerous other small / local business to based themselves in Lithgow, Lidsdale & Wallerawang due to the constant supply of services and equipment Springvale requires in order to operate. This also employs numerous men and women within the community.
Living in Lithgow, I enjoy being apart of watching the community prosper through the contributions Springvale has made to the region. Springvale's Charity fund has always contributed to local charities and events, which, without the significant contributions the coal industry provides, could not achieve the success and development within the area.
Local industry is also supporting the training and development of school students entering the workforce. Numerous students have grown up to have opportunities of work experience, apprenticeship or graduate programs and become skilled trademen/women & engineers etc. Without the extension to Springvale allowing the continuation of this operation, none of these opportunites would be possible.
In fact, without the approval of the Southern Extension Project, the local area would suffer as employees would leave town to find further work, taking their families. This would have a domino affect with regard to the ongoing prosperity of local schools, builders (& other trades), clothing stores, cafes, butchers etc. not receiving as much local business.
For the ongoing benefits to the community within the greater City of Lithgow, I support the Southern Longwall Block Extension Project.

I wish to object to the Springvale Mine Extension Project for the following reasons:
- Important swamps, pagodas, and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall coal mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
- The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
- Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
- The sandstone rock supporting the 41 nationally endangered swamps, including the 11 shrub swamps affected by the proposal must not be fractured.
- If this project is approved, the proposed discharge of up to 43.8megalitres/day eco-toxic mine effluent must, at the very least, be treated by reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
- The scenic western edge of the Newnes Plateau must be protected from further scarring by new roads, pipeline and electricity easements.
- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
- If this project is approved (which I hope it is not), please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps must not be damaged.
Sincerely,
