As well as providing direct jobs for 300+ people, the Springvale extension will continue Lithgow's proud and essential partnership with mining. Much of the towns existence is derived from the incomes and expenditure associated with mining. It is through direct employment, employment in the businesses that support the mines, and local retail and trade that the project is beneficial to Lithgow.
The mines also stimulate spending in Bathurst and other nearby regional centres.
Please consider the social and environmental BENEFITS before buying into any anti-mining hysteria. Become familiar with the issues and how they will be managed to understand that Mining, when conducted in a responsible manner CAN coexist with the environment.

Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Springvale Mine Extension (SSD 12_5594)

Important swamps, pagodas, and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall coal mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
The sandstone rock supporting the 41 nationally endangered swamps, including the 11 shrub swamps affected by the proposal must not be fractured.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8megalitres/day eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated by reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
The scenic western edge of the Newnes Plateau must be protected from further scarring by new roads, pipeline and electricity easements.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps must not be damaged.

Dear Sir/Madam,

If you have ever spent time in the beautiful Gardens of Stone and Lost City sites you will know why it is precious and must be protected. Mining, money and resources should not come at the cost of beauty that has stood for thousands of years. I realise the importance of mining to the Australian economy, but a huge income could be generated by marketing these beautiful sites that will never dry up or fall away of their own accord. Mines are temporary but these environments are eternal and deserve respect and reverence.

Please consider these points in relation to the Springvale mine extension:

I have travelled through this area. It is a truly beautiful and unique part of Australia and must be preserved for future generations.

Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area. The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings. Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations. The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured. The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable. The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River. Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. Dear Sir/Madam,

I find the Springvale place mine extension short sighted and will undoubted negatively affect a region of national significance. The proposed extension will be detrimental to the region's future.

Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension

I am one of many who are concerned about harm to the environment from mining activities such as this. Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.

I also believe that full disclosure and transparency will only occur if the Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals are made subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.

If some proposal must proceed, please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

Having read the Springvale mine extension project I would like to say that this project should go ahead.
The environmental assessments carried out have indicated that there will be minimal impact on the environment and that any impacts can be managed by implementing appropriate management strategies.
The economic benefits for the community will be enormous.
The impact on the community if the project doesn't go ahead would be disastrous. It is not only the 310 workers and their family's who receive economic benefits but also the flow on effects to businesses that rely on the wages earned at Springvale, those providing mining equipment, to the small businesses where wages are spent.
My husband has worked at Springvale for more than 20 years. Our son plays sport in town which is supported by Springvale sponsorship. The mine also sponsors our local agricultural show which is an important social and economic event for our small village of about 60 people. Without the help of this sponsorship many events would not be able to continue.
The Springvale mine extension project is a worthwhile project that will benefit the local area with little to no impact on the surrounding natural or built environment.

The area of this proposal is an important scenic area which should be protected from the impacts of any mining, including the extra roads, pipelines, and electrical power lines. The geological structures known as pagodas are fragile and may easily collapse if undermined or disturbed by vibration from blastings etc. Any fracturing of the sandstone may lead to the drainage and ultimate destruction of precious upland swamps.
The water quality of the Carne and Bungleboori Creeks must not be affected by the water draining from the workings.
The future of the area as a tourist attraction and as a source of clean drinking water is more important than the short-term gain from coal mining

all the mines in the local area contribute to my local area and many of the community groups including sporting groups and charity organisations for a small example springvale provided first aid kits to the new south whales bush rangers hockey team and always provide funds to local charity events. the mines are also one of the main sources of income to the local area and with out the jobs that the mines provide I have very serious doubts bout Lithgows ability to sustain its self

I am very concerned to learn of this application to extend Angus Place mine and at the same time, the adjoining Springvale mine which are together a very large increase to coal mining in the one area. They are both situated in land that has been identified as needing preservation as national park because of their conservation values, in particular protecting the unusual pagoda rock formation s of the Gardens of Stone National Park. Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.

The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings so that the combined impact of these two proposals are fully understood and assessed appropriately.

Centennial Coal has been required by the Commonwealth government to pay $1,45million in reparations for damage done to nationally threatened upland swamps on its earlier operations in the Newnes Plateau area. We cannot take the risk that the damage that led to this measure will occur again.

Centennial Coal must revise its proposal to improve the environmental outcomes should this proposal go ahead. Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps must not be damaged.

Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

The reason for my concern over this project is a number of residents in the blue mountains and Lithgow area including myself and family are suffering from the effects of low frequency sound or infrasound which is similar in effect to wind turbine syndrome. Due to the frequency and consistency of this hum or shaking it is considered to be unlikley train or traffic noise as this noise can last for hours days or weeks without rest and varies in intensity from a noticeable hum to a vibration felt through the body. I feel this may have something to do with mine ventilation which is the only constant source of operation capable of producing sound energy at these frequencies. I have also noticed a decline in native animal activity in the area in the time since the infra sound has propagated . I would like to ask the Director General to examine the cause of this problem and in conjunction with the appropriate authorities find the cause and eliminate it.
In conclusion I am looking forward to Centennial Coal continuing its operations into the future with a positive impact on the local community.
