I am opposed to this mining application because it will destroy significant natural environments and also contaminate Sydney's drinking water.

Springvale is currently employing 300 locals. The colliery has a good record of mining in our local area with minimal impacts to the people that live here and the local environment. The mine is support number of local businesses from small ones to more significant ones. The provided support to the community is great and irreplaceable - The Charity Golfing days sponsored by Centennial Coal and held in Lithgow provides thousands of dollars each year for local cancer support charities.

The Springvale mine extension should not receive planning approval and at least should be subject to stringent planning assessment.
They propose to mine under the Newnes Plateau with its magnificent pagodas. To subject these to cracking from inevitable subsidence totally undermines the reason for having these areas protected.
Subsidence will also inevitably crack and therefore drain many of the natural hanging swamps in the area. Apart from the biodiversity loss; draining these areas of valuable moisture has a significant effect on future bush fires. Natural moisture helps slow the advance of fires and any-one complicit in their demise must also be held accountable for fire increase.
Headwaters of pristine creeks, that flow through our national parks, will also be subject to pollution and degradation.
With the current over supply of coal we should not be allowing damage to our most beautiful assets for a few dollars of profit

springvale colliery is a very important business in our local area employing hundreds , supporting many more via charity and sponsorship. If the mines expansion is not allowed then Lithgow and surrounds will be so negatively impacted it may never recover Also it must be remembered that the mining practises utilised by Springvale coal mine to ensure minimal impact on the environment are second to none in this country and probably the world

Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Springvale Mine Extension (SSD 12_5594)

We have an obligation to our children,, and a responsibility passed down from our parents, to protect our antural and protected environments.

Important swamps, pagodas, and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall coal mining but instead protected in a state conservation area. The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations. The sandstone rock supporting the 41 nationally endangered swamps, including the 11 shrub swamps affected by the proposal must not be fractured. The proposed discharge of up to 43.8megalitres/day eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated by reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River. The scenic western edge of the Newnes Plateau must be protected from further scarring by new roads, pipeline and electricity easements.Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps must not be damaged.

Yours sincerely,

Thank you

I am appalled at the shortsightedness that would even consider more mining when the facts of water pollution, ill health, air pollution are coming in thick and fast. The facts of the effects of this industry cannot be denied any longer. Whole communities are rising up to say no. Why is our government only listening to the mining companies who have lied and polluted our Land and water all for their own greed. The government inamerica and Qld already have a clean up bill for the capping of defunct mines that they cannot afford.
I find it insane that any government would go against the will of the people to such an extent that you have activated the entire gamut of the population to object and say no more.
When are you going to listen and ban this unconventional gas mining? How much of our land and water are you planning on destroying before you finally get voted out?
I have never voted for the greens before but there is no way I will continue to vole for a government who place Greed ahead of the people.
Said e our land before it is too late to save. Please.

This is publicly owned land that is some of the most unique and beautiful land in Australia it is a superb recreational resource for the people of Sydney and Australia. I have bushwalked in some of these areas and it has been inspirational and enriching to the soul to be among the magnificent stone pagodas, soaring cliffs and forests. It seems incredibly short term thinking to be considering allowing mining of any type in this environment.
Please preserve these areas for the future enjoyment of our growing population and the preservation of the biodiversity of flora and fauna they support.

Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area. The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings. Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations. The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured. The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable. The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River. Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it. Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Dear Sir/Madam,

In regards to the State Significant Project - Springvale Mine Extension (SSD 12_5594) I am horrified that such a proposal is even being considered !

I have never had the privilege or opportunity, to visit this amazing looking place. Having just now seen the pictures of it, I am appalled that I may never get the chance to one day visit, it and explore, and enjoy these magnificent rock formations, which I seriously now wish to do.

I agree whole-heartedly with these points below, and wish the NSW Department of Planning & Infrastructure, to listen and represent the will of The People, NOT the Mining Companies.

Once it is gone, it is Lost Forever !

Springvale has had a good track record of mining in the local area, supporting a large work force of people. Their product can directly supply Mt Piper electrical power station which is only several kilometres away. This power plant also employs many local people and requires coal to operate. Springvale continued operations are critical for supporting this local community through adding value back into the community through jobs offered, sponsorship and having an active involvement in the local sporting community. The company uses local trades and supplies of goods which brings money into the community.
Late last year Springvale employees helped staff the volunteers' canteen during the State Mine bush fire at Lithgow. Springvale contributed food and drink for the volunteers during this local community crisis.
This is a local business worthy of a continued consent in order to operate into the years ahead.

I fully support the Springvale Mine Extension Project. Coal mining in the Lithgow area has been a strong emplloyer for many years, providing wages and income to the local community. There is also a large number of businesses that benefit from supporting the mining operations in the Lithgow area. Centennial Coal has been a strong supporter of the Lithgow sporting fraternity for many years, sponsoring, athletics, rugby league, hockey and cricket just to name a few. The ongoing operation at Springvale will continue to provide this income and benefits to the local community with the approval of the extension project.

Springvale provides employment for around 300 people in a rural community. It supports many other jobs through required services and products.
Lithgow and other surrounding towns are supported by the income earned.

This proposal to further undermine the Newnes state forest is a travesty. It will adversely affect the surface biota through subsidence and subseqent water loss, including the endangered shrub swamp.
Subsidence will also crack unique and magnificent surface pagoda structures, and other surface rock features.
There is a strong chance that the effluent from this mine will pollute the pure Carnes creek catchment, further impacting the biota of this area, and the greater blue mountains heritage area through which this creek flows.
This proposal should be dismissed out of hand.
