I am saddened to even have to be making a submission like this in relation to somewhere as breathtakingly beautiful and unique as this area of the Mountains. I have walked here with friends years ago and marvelled. I never thought it would be threatened like this.

I strongly believe the Modification 4 proposal should either be refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

I believe this proposal is a Trojan Horse. I understand this small amount of mining is not needed for continuity of operations at Angus Place.

I have seen the images of the confluence of the clear Carne Creek, coming out of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and the brick orange Wolgan River. Having some basic ecology I can make an educated guess at the destruction signified by that. Please do not allow Carne Creek to suffer the same fate, for the benefit of a few rich people who are madly trying to make as much money as possible before the end of coal.

I would like to see this area untouched as it is an important area for habitat as well as flora and I would like my children to be able to witness the beauty of this area in its natural form

I am writing to request that the proposal for the Angus Place Modification Project Number 4 be sent to the Planning Assessment Commission or rejected outright.
This extension of the mining will severely impact the Carne Creek catchment in which are pristine swamps on Newnes Plateau.
I have spent much time exploring the incredible forests and unique flora and fauna on the Newnes Plateau. It is truly an ancient and one time sacred place of the first inhabitants. its forests, flora and fauna are totally unique to the area and its rich biodiversity are wholly interdependent on the sandstone based rock platforms through which course the waters down into the catchment area. Any disturbance of this catchment area will have a profound impact on the whole of the Plateau and the Stone Gardens that are an ancient reminder of the beauty of our continent.
If members of the Planning Department were to visit this Plateau, there would be an overall consensus that any expansion of the mine would have dire consequences.
The short-term and long term affects of diminishing water in creek-beds that feed into catchments is now becoming evident.
Please give this proposal extensive scrutiny by sending it to the Planning Assessment Commission.

Somewhere, somewhere a line must be drawn between this destructive and short sighted industry and this country that we are ALL blessed to enjoy, not just the few resource investors who are blessed with govt co-operation in mining our collective resources. We the citizens of Australia own this land.

The potential for damaging Carne creek is high- it would be deeply disturbing to see the creek run orange or for it to suffer from reduced flows as happened to the Wolgan Wolgan River after Centennial Coal's operations there. This is especially concerning as the proposed first workings being applied for under Modifcation 4 set up longwall mining of panels 1001 and 1003 that are wider than those previously approved; these will lead to more environmental damage in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment than was caused in the Wolgan River catchment which was a disaster.

Presently Carne Creek is in a pristine state, and its waters flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. Degradation of Carne Ck could degrade the WHA values.

Centennial Coal is attempting a cynical "locking in" of the position of regulatory authorities regarding damaging mining in this sensitive area before the Planning Assessment Commission has decided the matter.

The Modification 4 proposal should either be refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

I believe that the modification under consideration is an attempt by the coal company to present a fait accompli to the Planning and Assessment Commission when the time comes to rule on the main mining Commission so that the mine project can be assessed in full on its full merits or lack of them.

Of course, this is all a clumsy and transparent a trick by a bunch of desperate environmental vandals determined to get their way.

I am a long term resident of the Blue Mountains, having lived here as a small child over 50 years ago and then returning with my family 25 years ago. I chose to live here because of the clean air, clean water and beautiful environment. My family and I have spent much time in the wild and beautiful bushland of the Blue Mountains. It is an area of wilderness that should be saved for the conservation of flora and fauna as well as for the fascinating geology of the Newnes Plateau. At a time when the world is questioning the wisdom of continuing to mine and burn coal, this mine should not be approved.
I agree with the following points:

I am very concerned about the protection of the Gardens of Stone Environment and the environment around Carne Creek. I am very concerned that this area be protected from any degradation of the environment, and this pristine creek, Carne Creek.

Submission as an Objection - Angus Place Colliery PA06_0021 Modification 4
Pre-emptive development of roadways and headings for longwalls 1001 and 1003

I am writing to object to this Modification 4 of Angus Place Colliery. I wish to protect the pristine waters of Carne Creek and the nature of the environment, with its valuable landforms in this area.

- The Modification 4 proposal should either be refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

- This small amount of proposed mining is not needed for continuity of operations at Angus Place, and I oppose this proposal as it pre-empts decision making for the major mine extension proposal under assessment (i.e. SSD5602).

- Centennial Coal advertised this minor Modification during the exhibition for the major mine extension causing confusion and to be fair all the submissions to Modification 4 and SSD5602 proposals must be considered in relation to both these proposals.

- Centennial Coal must not be allowed consent for Modification 4 over an area where first workings have already been sought and approved last year in a restricted manner that did not preempt decisions on the major extension by the Planning Assessment Commission.

- The proposed first workings being applied for under Modifcation 4 set up longwall mining of panels 1001 and 1003 that are wider than those previously approved and will lead to more environmental damage in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment than was caused in the Wolgan River catchment.

- Centennial Coal is manipulating the planning system to gain a tactical benefit, namely to set the width of the longwalls as a precedent in the sensitive area proposed for future mining under SSD 5602 before the Planning Assessment Commission as considered the major extension proposal.

- Centennial Coal is attempting to "lock in" the position of regulatory authorities regarding damaging mining in this sensitive Carne Creek area before the Planning Assessment Commission has decided the matter.

- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard.

- Carne creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

Please ensure that this process follows the correct planning process. While I understand the size of the project is small, the risk to Carnes creek is large and irreversible. The authorities have already acknowledged this in their first decision and it is important tgat companies realize they cannot work around the systems we have to protect all interests in a fair and transparent manner.
