Mod 4 - Development Continuity

I believe the Angus Place Mine Extension Project is worth supporting due to the following points:

-> Angus Place will continue to support a local workforce of up to 300 employees.
-> Angus Place has a good track record of mining in our local area with minimal impacts to the people that live here and the local environment.
-> Angus Place plays a big part in supplying coal for local electricity generation.
->Employees of Angus Place spend their salary on local businesses and services.
-> I would personally be affected if Angus Place Extension does not go ahead.

The Modification 4 proposal should either be refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.


This small amount of proposed mining is not needed for continuity of operations at Angus Place, and I oppose this proposal as it pre-empts decision making for the major mine extension proposal under assessment (i.e. SSD5602). 


Centennial Coal advertised this minor Modification during the exhibition for the major mine extension causing confusion and to be fair all the submissions to Modification 4 and SSD5602 proposals must be considered in relation to both these proposals.


Centennial Coal must not be allowed consent for Modification 4 over an area where first workings have already been sought and approved last year in a restricted manner that did not preempt decisions on the major extension by the Planning Assessment Commission. 


The proposed first workings being applied for under Modifcation 4 set up longwall mining of panels 1001 and 1003 that are wider than those previously approved and will lead to more environmental damage in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment than was caused in the Wolgan River catchment.

To whom it may concern,

Again, I am asking that the proposal being put up to extend mines in the sensitive Newnes Plateau, Gardens of Stone region to not be allowed. These areas are unique and world renowned. They are very sensitive to activities that will vibrate, jostle, and otherwise move huge chunks of earth around. There is already evidence that some of the pagodas are cracking to current mining. Please don't allow this to become worse. There are pristine waterways in the proposed areas. The company in question has already polluted other previously pristine waterways, and realistically can't guarantee that they won't do so again.

Please do not allow this proposal to go through. We need areas of beauty and biodiversity to be set aside and not be dig up or under or around or near. We need them to protect the unique species that live in them. We need them to be left alone so generations of people can enjoy them as well as allowing the indigenous species the thrive. We don't have the right to destroy or risk destroying these areas just for the sake of a few dollars.

- Although I currently do not live in the area, I have an art studio at my parents house in nearby Walerawang and I am committed to stopping this outrage and bringing it to the attention of others.

As well as being an endangered ecological community, the swamps feed the headwater tributaries of Carne Creek, a pristine surface water system which is an integral part of the water supply for the Emirates Resort and then flows into the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.

* - Past mining activities by Centennial havecompromised partsof the groundwater and surface water systems of Newnes Plateau. No amount of adaptive mangement was able to prevent the damage and no amount of risk management adequately countered the damage. The Carne Creek region should not be subjected to the same fate.

* - If this proposal is not rejected outright, I believe it is imperative that it be referred to the Planning Assessment Commission.

The proposed Angus Place modification 4 proposal will allow damaging mining in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment. I stronly obkect to this proposal.

Unnecessary for continuity of current mine against potential environmental degradation. This is a pristine piece of wilderness in a World Heritage Area visited by over 2m tourists per annulment. Have we learnt nothing from the Sth American experience.

Great to see local investment supporting so many families in the area just what Lithgow needs

There is controvertible evidence that mining of the type proposed in this application has caused severe damage to aquifers, swamp ecosystems and other ecosystems in the Western Coal Fields and in other parts of The Sydney Basin. However, the mining companies that are responsible for this damage almost invariably refuse to acknowledge that it occurs, let alone desist from making applications such as the subject of this submission.

The mining industry is a keen student of Karl Rove: "The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." ... "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality--judiciously, as you will--we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors...and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

Submission as an Objection - Angus Place Colliery PA06_0021 Modification 4
Pre-emptive development of roadways and headings for longwalls 1001 and 1003

- The Modification 4 proposal should either be refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

- This small amount of proposed mining is not needed for continuity of operations at Angus Place, and I oppose this proposal as it pre-empts decision making for the major mine extension proposal under assessment (i.e. SSD5602).

- Centennial Coal advertised this minor Modification during the exhibition for the major mine extension causing confusion and to be fair all the submissions to Modification 4 and SSD5602 proposals must be considered in relation to both these proposals.

- Centennial Coal must not be allowed consent for Modification 4 over an area where first workings have already been sought and approved last year in a restricted manner that did not preempt decisions on the major extension by the Planning Assessment Commission.

- The proposed first workings being applied for under Modifcation 4 set up longwall mining of panels 1001 and 1003 that are wider than those previously approved and will lead to more environmental damage in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment than was caused in the Wolgan River catchment.

- Centennial Coal is manipulating the planning system to gain a tactical benefit, namely to set the width of the longwalls as a precedent in the sensitive area proposed for future mining under SSD 5602 before the Planning Assessment Commission as considered the major extension proposal.

- Centennial Coal is attempting to "lock in" the position of regulatory authorities regarding damaging mining in this sensitive Carne Creek area before the Planning Assessment Commission has decided the matter.

- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard.

- Carne creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
