Hi :

I object to Centennal Coals proposal for a third mine modification in the Newnes Plateau Gardens of Stone region.

This area is an environmentally signnificant fragile ecosystem containing pristine swamps that would be directly effected by an increase in mining activity as proven by previous damage to the Wolgan River.

*- The Modification 4 proposal should either be refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

*- This small amount of proposed mining is not needed for continuity of operations at Angus Place, and I oppose this proposal as it pre-empts decision making for the major mine extension proposal under assessment (i.e. SSD5602).

*- Centennial Coal advertised this minor Modification during the exhibition for the major mine extension causing confusion and to be fair all the submissions to Modification 4 and SSD5602 proposals must be considered in relation to both these proposals.

*- Centennial Coal must not be allowed consent for Modification 4 over an area where first workings have already been sought and approved last year in a restricted manner that did not preempt decisions on the major extension by the Planning Assessment Commission.

*- The proposed first workings being applied for under Modifcation 4 set up longwall mining of panels 1001 and 1003 that are wider than those previously approved and will lead to more environmental damage in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment than was caused in the Wolgan River catchment.

*- Centennial Coal is manipulating the planning system to gain a tactical benefit, namely to set the width of the longwalls as a precedent in the sensitive area proposed for future mining under SSD 5602 before the Planning Assessment Commission as considered the major extension proposal.

*- Centennial Coal is attempting to "lock in" the position of regulatory authorities regarding damaging mining in this sensitive Carne Creek area before the Planning Assessment Commission has decided the matter.

*- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard.

*- Carne creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

There is no basis to approve this application that makes any sense - not environmentally, not economically and not in the public interest.

Allowing coal mining, any coal mining, let alone in a sensitive and pristine natural environment such as this, is just plain wrong. It is the duty of government to protect public lands for future generations. It is not in the public interest to allow short term private gain to small few individuals from what is permanent vandalism.

New coal mines are not needed at all. Extension of existing coal mines is not needed. The coal industry is on the verge of going out of business globally. It no longer makes sense to be creating new mines when global demand for coal is falling and will continue to fall. What will happen is the public will be left to clean up the mess when these business declare bankruptcy, leaving behind a giant mess for the taxpayer to clean up.

Coal is dirty, dangerous and unnecessary. Clean water, clean air, clean Earth, safe habitat and wild spaces are now priceless beyond measure. We must save what is left for future generations.

There are no jobs on a dead planet and certainly no tourism industry for a ravaged landscape. Have some foresight. Stop the madness now. Think what you are doing before it's too late.

I oppose this proposal which I think should be refused as it is not needed and pre empts the mine extension proposal under assessment SSD5602.
All submissions related to Modification 4 and SSD5602 should be considered together.
Centennial Coal is trying to set a precedent in the width of the long walls for future proposals.
Not much pristine wilderness remains on the planet to hand on to future generations and such areas should be kept for the common good and not the short term gain of our generation.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment and to represent the views of an Australian citizen, 5th generation. The wilderness in this area has been there before us, with us and should remain after us.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Submission as an Objection - Angus Place Colliery PA06_0021 Modification 4
Pre-emptive development of roadways and headings for longwalls 1001 and 1003

Once again, I am astounded that such a proposal form Centennial Coal is on the table.
With that, I implore you to ensure that the Modification 4 proposal be either refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

The small amount of proposed mining is not needed for continuity of operations at Angus Place, and it pre-empts decision making for the major mine extension proposal under assessment (i.e. SSD5602).

Other important considerations include:

* Centennial Coal had advertised this minor Modification during the exhibition for the major mine extension causing confusion. To be fair all the submissions to Modification 4 and SSD5602 proposals must be considered in relation to both these proposals.

* Centennial Coal must not be allowed consent for Modification 4 over an area where first workings have already been sought and approved last year in a restricted manner that did not preempt decisions on the major extension by the Planning Assessment Commission.

* The proposed first workings being applied for under Modification 4 set up long wall mining of panels 1001 and 1003 that are wider than those previously approved. This will lead to more environmental damage in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment than was caused in the Wolgan River catchment.

* I fear that Centennial Coal is manipulating the planning system to gain a tactical benefit, namely to set the width of the long walls as a precedent in the sensitive area proposed for future mining under SSD 5602 before the Planning Assessment Commission as considered the major extension proposal.

* Centennial Coal is attempting to "lock in" the position of regulatory authorities regarding damaging mining in this sensitive Carne Creek area before the Planning Assessment Commission has decided the matter.

* Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard.

* Carne creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

I have been recently heartened to see that the current state government does have an awareness of environmental protection needs.

However, please be assured that the outcome of this proposal will strongly influence my views on the credibility of this government and the interactions I share with other business people and peers.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

I strongly object to this Angus Place Mine Extension Project, as it has the strong potential for causing irreparable damage to the Carne Creek catchment within the Gardens of Stone NP. The biodiversity of a pristine environment will be forever compromised. The mining company simply does not have the right to destroy such a fragile environment, and it would be unconscienable to permit this to happen. Does destructive mining practices have a higher priority than preservation of such precious environments?

Angus Place employs over 300 people and is a vital part of the Lithgow economy both directly and indirectly.
Employee's private contribuations from their wages are donated to Private and Public Hospitals for Equipment, Local Schools, World Vision, Under Privledged and Disabled Members of the Community, the Elderly of Tandarra, Cooinda and Three Tree Lodge, Early Intervention Children, Camp Quality, Legacy, Daffadil Day, Big Morning Tea and the Barry Rushworth / Laurie Bender Cancer Walk.
The biggest donation with help from the Company and Sister Mines, was for a prostate biopsy machine for the hospital so the men of the district did not have to travel out of town for tests.
The Centennial Coal Golf day raises over $40,000 annually for charities in the district.
Centennial has always tried to conduct safe mining for the workforce, the district and the environment.
If approval is not given it would mean job loses, pressures on the vibility of local business, their employee's and the end of all the fine community work and help the mine workforce provides to those in need.
We all need mining.
The Lithgow Community and Local Businesses need Angus Place.

Pre-emptive development of roadways and headings for longwalls 1001 and 1003

I am writing to express my deep concern over this application for a Modification to Project Approval at the Angus Place Mine, called Modification 4. The Modification 4 proposal should either be refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

This small amount of proposed mining is not needed for continuity of operations at Angus Place, and I oppose this proposal as it pre-empts decision making for the major mine extension proposal under assessment (i.e. SSD5602).

Centennial Coal advertised this minor Modification during the exhibition for the major mine extension causing confusion and to be fair all the submissions to Modification 4 and SSD5602 proposals must be considered in relation to both these proposals.

I totally oppose Modification 4 proposal. It is designed to manipulate the system to allow Centennial Coal to wreck the last pristine creek catchment in the Greater Blue Mountains. I have visited the Carne Creek area extensively and know first hand how unique and irreplaceable this environment is. The World Heritage listed Greater Blue Mountains must not be allowed to be wrecked by a company that has in the past wrecked the Wolgan River nearby, and its hanging swamps.
