This mining activity as proposed will wreck the best upland swamps on Newnes Plateau. This application should be refused.


*- The Modification 4 proposal should not form a separate application process it is integral to the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) and must therefore be assessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

*- This is a corruption of the planning assessment process as it pre-empts decision making for the major mine extension proposal under assessment (i.e. SSD5602).

*- Centennial Coal has deliberately confused and manipulated the assessment procedure by advertising this minor modification during the exhibition for the major mine extension. Modification 4 and SSD5602 proposals must be considered together.

*- Centennial Coal must not be given consent for Modification 4 over an area where first workings have already been sought and approved last year in a restricted manner.

*- The proposed first workings being applied for under Modifcation 4 set up longwall mining of panels 1001 and 1003 that are wider than those previously approved and will lead to more environmental damage in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment than was caused in the Wolgan River catchment. Therefore these modifications must be subject to a full assessment in the context of the full project.

*- This is a blatant manipulation of the planning system to gain a tactical benefit - to establish wider longwalls and set a precedent in the sensitive area proposed for future mining under SSD 5602 before the Planning Assessment Commission.

*- This could "lock in" the position of regulatory authorities regarding damaging mining in this sensitive Carne Creek area before the

The proposed Angus Place modification 4 proposal would set a precedent that allows damaging mining in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment which contains the highest conservation value swamps on Newnes Plateau.

Centennial Coal (despite all the controversial negative publicity and concerns about abuses of process) wants high intensity mining in this environmentally sensitive area.

The Modification 4 proposal should be refused not only because of its harmful effects on the environment but

I am disgusted by previous damage by the coal industry in the area. It is one of the best and most accessible wilderness areas near Sydney, one that my family and friends often enjoy. To risk damaging it in this way is repugnant, and I find the sharp practices of the coal industry to be despicable.

I have been requesting this are be protected for over 20 years having taken a couple of Enviornment ministers into teh area when i lived in Sydney. One would have hoped that succesive governments would have realised that coal mininbg in this area and proptecting biodiversity are incompatable

I am strongly opposed to any extension of mining in environmentally sensitive areas. Furthermore, -existing- coal mines are closing all round Australia as the demand for coal dimishes. Why -extend- a coal mine that would damage the environment? Makes no sense.

I have a simple request..please do not destroy that which is not yours to destroy, it belongs to humanity, it cannot be replaced, once it is destroyed it is gone forever, your grandchildren will despise you for your decisions. You do not have the right to destroy that which is not yours, it belongs to all humanity. There are alternatives to our energy needs, let us use them, please do not let your personal greed overtake your needs.

I am concerned about the impact of government policies on our mining industry. Mining contributes a great deal to our state. It is the biggest export industry in NSW, provides tens of thousands of direct jobs, provides billions in royalties, and supports jobs in other industries like manufacturing. But new layers of regulation and an increasingly complicated planning system threaten the industry in NSW and put our future prosperity at risk.


Mining in NSW is facing the toughest conditions in 20 years with many jobs lost in the last six months and many more could follow. While mining regions like the Hunter bear the brunt of these job losses, Sydney will also be affected as investment and revenue are lost to NSW. I personally have 3 kids to support, one being 3 weeks old, and also have a mortgage. Can anyone tell me who is going to feed them if Angus place and other NSW coal projects were not approved.

- Centennial Coal is attempting to "lock in" the position of regulatory authorities regarding damaging mining in this sensitive Carne Creek area before the Planning Assessment Commission has decided the matter.

- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard.

- Carne creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

- Once swamps and bogs and forests in our high country are compromised - and there's no way they won't be with this proposal - the damage done long term is substantial. This has happened across Australia in numerous areas, formerly quite often through ignorance, but now the science is there against this type of clearing, there is no further excuse for this destructive development.

Please register my opposition to proposed extension of Angus Place Colliery PA06_0021. Please find alternative sources of energy and leave fossil fuels in the ground.

The underground roadway development proposal on display is necessary to facilitate the continued operations of Centennial Angus Place.
I have been continuously employed by the Colliery as an underground supervisor for about 45 years and can attest to its value and support of the local and regional community. It is the longest continually operating mine in the Western District which is self evident of the culture of sustainability and environmental sensitivity that the management has displayed.
I support its continued operations and any approvals that are needed to achieve this aim.

Dear Sirs,
- The Modification 4 proposal should either be refused or its determination deferred until the major mine extension for Angus Place (SSD5602) is accessed and determined by the Planning Assessment Commission.

- This small amount of proposed mining is not needed for continuity of operations at Angus Place, and I oppose this proposal as it pre-empts decision making for the major mine extension proposal under assessment (i.e. SSD5602).

- Centennial Coal advertised this minor Modification during the exhibition for the major mine extension causing confusion and to be fair all the submissions to Modification 4 and SSD5602 proposals must be considered in relation to both these proposals.

- Centennial Coal must not be allowed consent for Modification 4 over an area where first workings have already been sought and approved last year in a restricted manner that did not preempt decisions on the major extension by the Planning Assessment Commission.

- The proposed first workings being applied for under Modification 4 set up longwall mining of panels 1001 and 1003 that are wider than those previously approved and will lead to more environmental damage in the sensitive Carne Creek catchment than was caused in the Wolgan River catchment. Say 'NO' to further environmental damage.

- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. They MUST be preserved in this state.

- Carne creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

I have visited friends living in these areas in the past and was blown away by the peace and tranquility and all the wildlife and variety of native plants. Old growth forest and bush areas must be PROTECTED FOREVER please.
