Transport and Infrastructure SEPP (2021) (SEPP) amendments
Modern telecommunications are central to our lives. They impact the way we work, do business and our personal lives. It's our role to review government policy to keep up with the times.
In April 2022 changes were made to the SEPP to help speed up the delivery of new telecommunications infrastructure.
The amendment supports new telecommunications infrastructure and accelerated necessary projects. This benefits communities by creating jobs and supporting economic growth in NSW.
The amendments will simplify planning pathways for telecommunications infrastructure including:
- Development without consent – development undertaken by a public authority. For example, NSW Telco Authority.
- Complying development – development that must comply with prescribed conditions. Conducted by a certifier or authority.
- Exempt development – minor development not subject to assessment or requires consent.
The Explanation of Intended Effect outlining the proposed changes was on exhibition from 16 August to 13 September 2021.
