Problem statements

How can the Applicants, Councils and Industry experience become more intuitive, and efficient, by using AI to guide them through the NSW Planning Portal to reduce confusion and help them submit accurate and complete applications?

How can the applicants complete application and certificate forms across the Portal’s 30+ services more easily, with better accessibility, and submit them faster?

How can the applicants easily understand and navigate the planning and certification process to know exactly which digital services and certifications they need?

How might document requirements be standardised and quality validation be implemented so applicants can easily understand and provide the correct, high-quality documents?

How can the applicants reduce the manual effort required to complete application forms so it’s easier and more accurate for them to submit?

Scope

This will involve exploring factors such as:

  • Using AI to support applicants in providing accurate, relevant and necessary information from the start.
  • Reducing the need for re-work and improving the quality of submissions to speed-up application and approval processes.
  • Improving accessibility to make the application journey clearer and more straightforward for people who have limited experience with planning processes, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Decreasing the need for manual data entry to reduce time needed to assess the application.

Please note that the scope may be adjusted. Any changes will be communicated accordingly.
