I refer specifically to the proposal to create a pedestrian link at 468 Hunter Street. This is an excellent idea in my opinion. I submit that it should definitely be designed to be cyclist friendly and accessible. A separated cycleway through this link would enhance useability and safety. I also submit that, in consultation with City of Newcastle and Transport for NSW (RMS) that the signalised intersection of Hunter and Auckland Streets be reconfigured to be a 'scramble' pedestrian crossing to allow diagonal pedestrian movement. This will enhance direct connectivity with NeW Space.
Furthermore I submit that access for pedestrians and cyclists along Civic Lane must be wide enough to ensure comfort and safety. The plans for later stages of the HCCD appear to show Civic Lane as narrow potentially creating an unpleasant wind tunnel and poor outcome for, and potential conflict between, pedestrians and vehicles.

Dear James Groundwater,
I would like to write to you on behalf of the owners of the residential apartment building called Cityscape, and is backed and serviced, by a laneway called Civic Lane, and the Hunter Street address being, 522 - 526 Hunter Street, Newcastle 2300. This six storey tower consists of 23 residential apartments and some parking spaces under, some of the apartments are facing Hunter street, and others are facing out to the honeysuckle waterfront, and harbour foreshore, and also are looking across the harbour to the major concrete silos. Our major concern after looking at the UON Honeysuckle Campus Stage 1A, Sub 1391, drawings be they schematic proposals and also the studied shadow cast projections for winter and summer. We have realized that no consideration has been given to the existing owners residential rights to fair access to sunlight ventilation spaces between the buildings, viewing corridors, and the associated rights attached to development control plans that are allowed for residential living. Also access via Civic Lane, for existing metered car parking and for visitor car parking under our building has been made extremely poor in lack of sunlight and breezeway, and very restrictive for parked cars and Council Garbage trucks accessing down Civic Lane , suggesting that this Residential Apartment building is being treated as a commercial, 9am to 5pm building, and not as a residential apartment building. The major concern now has become that some of the existing owners are being forced to have to sell, with no sign of a sale being achievable, due to the severe adjoining construction proposals, which have financially compromised, the owners of unit 2, unit 15, unit 21, and possibly unit 22, which have a small child at present, and it would make it unbareable, while construction is happening. There is also the question of how the owners and tenants can and will have to be compensated for property value loss, and possible relocation, while construction is so close. Could we please call meetings with the residents to discuss how these important issues can be resolved with the Strata Body Corporate.
We look forward to your reply to our concerns.
Our Kindest Regards,
The Owners and Tenants, of 522-526 Hunter Street, Newcastle 2300

Council promised when they stole our rail corridor that the CORRIDOR WOULD REMAIN GREEN SPACE. This promise must be kept.
We were promised extra parking. This promise must be kept.
Council meetings we attended back in 2010 told us that this project would not go above 6 storeys. this promise should be kept.
This project is not suitable for the City of Newcatle. We dont want to be overrun by noisy Uni Students. We have minimal parking now, especially since the minimal parking at the front of our building was taken for a light rail.
This project IMPACTS OVERWHELMINGLY on our SUNSHINE, PRIVACY, ENJOYMENT OF OUR HOMES, PARKING, NOISE INTERRUPTIONS.
Uni Students will not support all the local businesses to the extent they need.
The Theft of our Views will has already impacted on the price our properties are worth, yet no compensation has been offered by this greedy development.
No ordinary citizen can obviously steal someone elses access to the sun, privacy, and destruction of capital without repercussions. This development should not be allowed to either. I am totally against destroying the way of life for others that are already living in Newcastle for this type of ridiculous development that does not benefit anyone in the long run.
Where will the parking be for us, our visitors, others that want to be able to come in from other suburbs to enjoy the water or beaches. Newcastle is becoming too
developed this ugly monstrocity should be in the suburbs where it always was, with plenty of access to it and plenty of parking, without disrupting other people enjoyment of their homes and environment.
How will the weekend noise, alcohol incidents, rubbish etc be dealt with, will it be left to ratepayers to pay for. Will our council rates go down as our values go down?

Cityscape Building has stood for decades and decades and absolutely should not have to be left in the dark and cold behind these terrible buildings.

I would like to express my full support for the Honeysuckle City Campus Development Stage 1, and all future stages.

This development will be a major contributor to the ongoing revitalisation of the Newcastle CBD. The new influx of university students living and studying in the CBD will be a major economic boost to the area, and see an increase in trade and business across multiple sectors.

Having studied the various planning documents, I am enthusiastic about the quality of architecture the new buildings will bring to the area, particularly since the project is being designed by the same architects behind the NeWspace City Campus.

I am delighted with the university's commitment to sustainability across all areas in this new development. The commitment to use 100% renewable energy, and not waste valuable land for car parking will ensure the university makes a substantial contribution to the transition away from non-renewable power generation and private car use. I am confident the public and alternative transport systems are capable of handling the task the new campus will present.

In summary, I look forward to the Honeysuckle Campus proceeding and making a valuable contribution to the redevelopment of the immediate area and broader City of Newcastle.
