I object strongly to this proposal. I have been coming here every weekend
to Penrose Park alongside this mine proposal for 21 years. It orp lace
of worhip and relaxation and is sacred to so many. This mine will ruin
this though noise and blasting and lihght and the pollution. Father
here is determined to stop this and many thousands of people here will
support him too. This is our place and the grotto of solitudde is on
the side of the mine. We came here to this secluded bush for this
peace. Please do allow this mining.

ive been coming here for 30 yrs. its a peaceful place to come and pray. i
dont think that have a mine this big is appropriate for this area. the
Grotto is a place of peace and being connected to God.
We need to keep this place quiet, we dont want truck, bulldozzers and
dust to ruin this place. As far as i am concerned it is a holy place.

We come to Penrose Park regularly and it's a quiet place. We don't want
to change the tranquility of the area. We don't want to change that
with a big sand mine next door.

This is no place to have a mine. It is a religious place. This is a
matter of dignity and respect for people and nature. It will make a
mess of our sacred placeDivision forever.

Please consider carefully before giving this quarry permission to destroy
this lovely area. Many local residents and visitors to the Shrine of
Our Lady of Mercy will love this area for the bushland , the wildlife
and numerous birds that roam freely. The children especially love
watching the kangaroos and parrots. These animals also are a rare
treat for our international visitors that come celebrate special feast
days, and participate in retreats. The peace will be destroyed. The
Shrines will be damaged by dust and vibrations. Please respect our
place of worship.

When I was told about the Sutton Forest Sand Quarry project, I was
outraged that our much loved `Shrine of our Lady of Mercy' could
really be at risk. But after looking at the EIS and how close they
propose to be working near our Grotto I felt heartbroken. Penrose Park
is such a special place of worship. No other community has such a
multicultural heart. There are over 20 nationalities represented here,
coming together as one. Many families have multigenerational ties to
this place, have devoted specific shrines of adoration to Saints close
to their hearts. People go there to prey quietly. These some of these
Shrines are less than150mts away from the quarry site. I cant believe
you are considering to allow a mining company to destroy what we hold
so precious. There will be bulldozers constantly taring and crushing
sandstone, the noise and the dust will shatter our quiet haven.
All this area will are of the southern highlands will be polluted,
tourism will be affected
This mine cannot be allowed go ahead.

this submission is in regard to the proposed sand mining to be taking
place at Penrose Park very close to the Catholic place of pilgrimage.
If this mining starts, this will drastically affect the functioning of
this sacred place by polition of noise, dust, etc. as wel as the
polition of the Sydney water supply.
I'm sure there are more remote sites where this mine could be
established.

I come to Penrose Park to pray and to attend festivals. I like how it is
now, quiet and peaceful and don't want the mine. We like the water as
well and don't want it polluted. This is holy land and don't want it
ruined. A lot of pilgrims come here and this mine will ruin it. We
come here all the way from Sydney for the fresh air and peace.

I came from New Zealand in 1993 to join this order of monks. I have had
peace and quiet up until now, I sincerely hope that the serenity of
this holy shrine is maintained well into the future. My work and life
since coming here has been devoted to God and this is where we find
him. a place of rest for the soul. and for all the thousands of
pilgrims that flock to this holy shrine under the tittle of Our Lady
of Mercy.

we have been coming here since 1984, to practice my faith. We want to
have a peaceful day, a quiet place to pray. This mine will ruin it,
surely you can find another place to do it.

I strongly object to this proposal for an industrial sand mine alongside
our property and monastery. Our property has around 30,000 - 40,000
pilgrims visit each year from Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra and all
over Australia as well as internationally.
Our source of drinking water is from an underground stream and aquifer
that runs underneath the proposed mining then under the length of our
property, circling through other areas to the east. Proposed mining
and blasting may compromise not just the environent but also the
drinking water which we have for ourselves and the pilgrims who
journey here from all over Australia.
Our community has been resident on this property since 1985. In view
of our community the environment and the many pilgrims who journey
here we would sincerely hope that this proposal will not go ahead.
Sincerely, Michael Gabriel Taylor.

I frequent Sutton's Forest and stay on a friends property that is on the
border of the proposed mine site. Given the massive size of the
proposed mine there seems to be a very serious risk with regards to
water flow, water purity, long term water purity (given the quality of
the proposed fill replacing the natural filtering through through the
sandstone) necessary for the local residence water bores. There could
also be serious risk to the physical safety of the local residents,
their children and families playing near or around the mine site.
Furthermore, this is a very pristine, quiet environment for the flaura
and fauna and all those who have chosen to reside at Sutton's Forest.
This mine is not acceptable and should be prevented from operating
where people have chosen to live.

I live in the street where the mine is proposed and am worried about the
change to our water level dropping the disturbance to the flora and
fauna in the vicinity the constant truck noise and also the
disturbance the mine will cause at the Monastery as My family has a
small chapel there and that is where I attend Mass every week.

I am a frequent visitor of the Pauline monestry. It is a place of quiet
and peacefulness. I object that you have not allo ed sufficient times
for the pilgrims of Penrose to be given time and the ability to know
about this project.
My objection is to defend the present sanctity of the area. My
objection is also in concern of the many shrines that have been
erected without any real sound structure. And with the ground pounding
by explosives, these structures will crumble. And these have been done
by pilgrims and are sacred sites.

Then there is the church.. how will this impact on the church. Has
there been a study done on how the foundations of the church will go
with all the blasting? Has there or will there be compensation drawn
up with the church for any damage done...

I oppose this project. And everyone I speak to says it's stupid idea
to do such a thing so close to a sacred and quiet place.
There obviously someone there getting a kick back of money to be able
to pass this through...

With so much sand in the outback ... you need to mine here? Next to a
quiet monestary. In the bush? Plain stupidity.
