QUESTIONS FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THIS PROPOSAL: (1) the "Royal Hall of Industries" is a specific building but the map and architectural plan indicate the boundary area includes the Hordern Pavilion - the area covered and delineated is from Driver Avenue, Lang Road, Errol Flynn Boulevard and Peter Finch Avenue. This is more than the Royal Hall of Industries, Why is this so?
(2) The application indicates the removal of 7 trees. The architectural plan shows only those at the "southern development" site - two trees. The others are?
(3) The stated uses for this development are for the Sydney Swans plus a hazy reference to public usage. Please indicate clearly and transparently exactly what access will be available to the general public (owners of this land) and when and how.

As a resident of Paddington with two young children I would like to see more public access within this development.
The swimming pool is not open to the public at Sydney Cricket Ground and the swimming pool within this development will also not be open to the public.
Considering this is is zoned as Public Space it seems the entire development will not be opened to the public except those elite athletes of sporting clubs.
Thanks

With the Adaptive Reuse of the Royal Hall of Industries there is a unique opportunity to open up one of the biggest land barriers in an international city anywhere in the world. Any development should consider opening up the precinct from East to West at public access points in Cook and Moore Park Roads. This would increase the number of people accessing the precinct by allowing the movement of pedestrian /cycle traffic through the site increasing usage of the precinct. It would also create an inspiration public space recognised internationally as a contemporary world site. Further, with the addition of the light rail along Anzac Parade and the new stadium, opening up the precinct to create a direct route for pedestrians from Bondi, Paddington to Moore Park would not only create a unique tourist experience, but also encourage greater usage of the precinct by CoS residents due to easier access to the site.

I object to the project concerning the Adaptive Reuse of the Royal Hall of Industries for use by the Sydney Swans as their sporting and administrative facility. In my view, this building is an important community space that has historical significance. For over 100 years, this building has been an important part of the Sydney community, hosting functions, balls, the showbag stands at the Royal Easter Show, and various community events and initiatives. I am concerned that its singular use for the training and administration of the Sydney Swans will diminish the value of the building to the community. As access to the building (despite the mention of some community/public facilities) will be restricted to the Swans team, management and academy. Certainly, the capacity of the building to host community events will be severely limited or prohibited. This, I believe, will have a major effect on the local community, particularly given the trend towards commercialisation of historical Sydney architecture. While I support the cultural significance of the Sydney Swans, I ultimately object to their use of this community building for their singular purpose.

I object to the proposal for the adaptive reuse of the RHI pavilion for the purposes of administation offices , training and rehab facilties for the Sydney Swans and Sydney Swifts sporting organisations. The proposal will lead to the loss of the only large capacity venue for the inner city, inner west , inner southern and eastern suburbs. The RHI is an iconic venue of significant arhitectural and cultural value and the loss of the venue will have a devastating impact on the inner city culture. In particular the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras who have utilised the venue over the last 40 years to hold the MG after party and for many years other large scale fund raising events such a Sleaze Ball and a number of large scale evevents associated with the Gay Games. These events had attendances of 10,000 to 20,000 per event. I beleve the loss of this venue for these celebratory and fund raising events could lead to the demise of the Mardi Gras parade and cultural festival.
In addition I believe it would have a negative impact on Sydneys bid to host World Pride
in 2023. These events are not only signicant to the gay community in Sydney but the gay communty Australia wide and the general community all over NSW and in particular Sydney.
The loss of this large scale venue restricts the future potential for hosting significant and unique events in Sydney for benifit of all the community.
The contruction of new buildings to the east and south east corner of the RHI pavilion to house other training facilties for the Sydney Swifts and an internal pool and hydro therapy pool, represents an over development of the site and will have a negative impact on the architectural character of this magnificent and unique large scale pavilion style building. These new buildings will destroy the pavilion style perpective of the RHI.
At a time when the completion of the new light rail sytem , which runs right past the RHI,
is imminent, it seems a poor decision to loose this large scale venue.
I note in the proposal documents there is reference to the under utilization of the RHI, quoting 93 days of use. Yet I note that in the same document is states that the redesigned building with a much smaller area available for use will be available to the general commuty use for around 240 days. This suggests the proposed utilisation by the sporting organisation is also around 90 days no more than current utilsation of the current RHI. In addition most large capacity venues and indeed many sporting venues would onlly be utilised around 90 to 100 days per year.
There are other options for the provision of the facilties for administration and training for these sporting organisation but most certainly there is no feasible option to replace the the loss of the RHI for large scale events.
