Hi, I am concerned regarding access to the hospital as well as traffic driving passed the hospital.
When the hospital opens it will have a major increase in traffic accessing the hospital and is there plans for the current infrastructure of small roundabout on current link roads accessing hospital to upgraded to improve traffic flow at peak periods.
I am a nurse at John Hunter Hospital and it is absolutely difficult with access getting out of the parking with majority of car parks pooling through small 1 lane roundaobuts. Between 4pm and 530 pm at John Hunter it can taken 45-60 minutes to exit the car parks funnelling through 2 small roundabouts and set of lights to main highway. The bulk of the traffic exiting car parks cannot get through small roundabouts which simply clog traffic and the hospital in its initial design did now allow for additional exit point until well into the future and which still have not commenced. Will the New Maitland Hospital be the same?
It would appear the main exit from the hospital campus is via 1 single lane round about on Metford Road and to meet another roundabout on Raymond Terrance Road a dual lane roundabout or if exiting towards East Maitland or towards the direction of freeway another smaller roundabout on Chelmsford Drive and Metford Road.
This small roundabout on Chelmsford road is the main access route for commuters heading towards Christian School on Chelmsford Drive, Greenhills shopping Centre and also commutors heading towards Newcastle and at peak times between 8-10am this small round about struggles with traffic at the moment without the major influx of workers needing access to the new hospital.
The majority of the additional traffic to the hospital will be workers, is the access on Metford Road new roundabout the only entry and exit point? Will all traffic need to funnel and create major traffic impact between Hospital and lights on Chelmsford and New England Highway? Will there be another exit point from the new Hospital campus?

I am requesting that strong consideration be placed on following points. 1) Lymphoedema Clinic to be included in the hospital. 2) Hospice for palliative care located at or near the hospital site. 3) Dedicated oncology ward with free and dedicated parking for oncology patients. 4) Public (free) facility for the harvesting and storing of sperm and eggs for young cancer patients who face infertility due to their treatment.
