Dear Sir, Madam
As a resident of Pyrmont who uses Pyrmont Bridge as a pedestrian on a
daily basis and who uses amenities of Darling Harbour at weekends, I
am extremely pleased with the quality of the amended proposal and
would like to express my full support.

I am particularly pleased with how the amended proposal:
- seeks to repair access between CBD and Darling Harbour, as well as
improves access from Pyrmont Bridge
- uses greenery and landscaping as well as softer finising touches on
the buildings to soften the appearance of the new preccint
- is built over Western Distributor helping to hide this road which
unfortunately is an undesired aspect of Darling Habour (any plans to
further rid / hide of this road would be greatly welcome by the
community)

I think this is a great proposal and I would like to see it
implemented with no further delay.

Kind Regards
Diana McAuliffe

Darling Harbour until recently has been a wonderful open, sunny place to
stroll around, eat, bring the family to, ride a bike etc and although
the harbour is small because buildings had height restrictions and
followed a stepping up in height theme the harbour has not felt
cramped.
Since the increase in residential apartments and offices with
Barangaroo the walking traffic along with the tourists has increased
substantially. One of the areas of difficulty of manoevering freely
has become the area in question. When people stop to read menus of the
restaurants etc the two way walking traffic becomes very narrow.
This development just makes everything more cramped.
The building is too close, too tall, too large in all dimensions and
definately cannot move further south.
It is not in keeping with the principle of the foreshore being for the
public over the private .It is out of keeping of our beautiful harbour
and will overshadow the harbour and all the surrounding buildings who
enjoy the present sunlight.
What is happening to our harbour area? Between the office block in the
new shopping precinct, the Ribbon and now this huge thick wall the
harbour will become dark and dingy , overcrowded with less
walking/cycling area thus making family and personnal access harder
and so less desirable a place to visit..
Please don't ruin a wonderful public area. Up until now the job that
was being done was fantastic.
This is not the middle of the CBD where one skyscraper is replaced by
an even higher one. This is meant to be our oasis in this city of
monstrous buildings please don't take it away because of greed and
money.
I have noticed that other submissions are more legal in terms than
mine but any person can see how the harbour is being ruined with all
this monstrous skyscraper development so close.
Its low level buildings and stepping height principle has been a
winning formula for tourists and city dwellers and visitors alike.
With the influx of the evergrowing residents of the city it is even
more important to keep our open public places light and airy and
pleasant to be in. Also because of these increasing numbers wider
walking access is required to accomodate the increasing traffic
between people and bikes.

The proposal betrays the original concept of Darling Harbour that
permitted lower height development at the harbour's edge, maintaining
views to and from buildings behind.

The simplistic Babel-like bulk of the tower dwarfs the quayside while
the Babylon-like garden bridge lacks appropriate character, finesse
and any acknowledgement of the waterfront, maritime location.

Overall the clumsy mass and form of the development will further
depreciate Darling Harbour as an attractive waterfront location for
citizens and visitors to Sydney.

I strongly believe the proposed tower and redevelopment of Cockle Bay
wharf is a gross overdevelopment that infringes on public land. The
proposed tower is too close to the foreshore and does not align with
surrounding buildings, nor does it add to the architectural appeal or
beautification of the Darling Harbour precinct. Although skyscrapers
are generally a welcomed addition to the Sydney skyline, I believe the
placement of this particular development is far too imposing on the
Harbour due to its proximity to the shoreline and the unsatisfactory
redevelopment of the Cockle Bay precinct.
In conclusion, this development should not proceed in its current form
unless further set back from the shoreline is made. A higher tower
would be favourable in exchange for a building that aligned with
exisiting building's footprint.
