I object to the mine proceeding as it will irreversibly affect the water, landscape and any potential for tourism activities. The supply of highly corrosive mine water form the three sources cannot be allowed. It has caused irretrievable damage to Wallerawang power station in 2007 resulting in its closure. Regis were unaware of this. Independent testing of the mine water at the release sites into the Wollgan and Coxs rivers shows that this water is contaminated with heavy metals, and salts which would make it totally unsuitable for agricultural practices. I support the McPhillamys Gold Project for the jobs it will create and for the economic benefit it will bring to Blayney and the central west.
I am aware that a large number of people are travelling out of the central west for work, many of these people would prefer to be able to find employment closer to home, this project would help them do just that.
I am also aware that a number of farmers have gained employment at existing mines in the area to help supplement there income, this is particularly beneficial during the very tough drought conditions we are currently experiencing, some of these farmers are travelling long distance so the work rosters adopted in mining allows them to gain extra income while still running there farms.
The water pipeline that is proposed as part of this project is an asset that is likely to benefit the central west long after the mine is completed, the 90 km long pipeline will transfer surplus water from the Springvale area near Lithgow to the project area, the pipeline would be capable of transferring up to 15.6 ML/day and could become a very valuable piece of infrastructure in the future.
