The close proximity of the mine to the township of Blayney, which already often has a blanket of fog over it during the depth of winter. The mine would then add to this and it could potentially be a blanket of dust all year round. Cadia mine have already paid for local residents water tanks to be cleaned out this year as they are having trouble suppressing the dust on the tailings dam. Not to mention the wall collapse, which driving past appears to be getting worse. How can Regis 100% guarantee that the tailings dame wall collapse at Cadia won't happen in this project?
How could anyone believe that bringing toxic water from Lithgow, quality level the Sydney basin rejected, is a positive to this project and the health of the Belubula Water catchment/Murray Darling Basin?
Regional NSW is already suffering drought contitions and therefore a serious lack of water. How can the any authority jeopardise what little QUALITY water there is and approve this project? The fact that Regis needs to pipe contaminated water from another catchment supports the fact that there is limited water available for this project.
As a life long community member and business owner in the area I do not believe that this project will have any LONG TERM positive contribution to the township of Blayney and surrounding areas. We will be the ones remaining in the area, to live with whatever is left of our precious river should this project go ahead. Management will move on, politicians will be retired and living on tax payer funded retirement packages. I seriously hope that common sense will prevail and the long term interest on the environment is seriously considered.
