Australia has some of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes, floor and fauna in the World. These ecosystems can often be fragile to external factors such as large and invasive industry. It is critical that we protect our environment as the future of the World we live in sits in the hands of those who protect our water supplies, food bowls and environment.

Mining is a one off money grab with a very small group of people profiting from the destruction this mining causes. However protecting our incredible ecosystems, flora and fauna for future generations is a far greater profit exercise as the same environment can be fruitful for ongoing industries such as tourism and farming which benefit a far greater number of people. Also the oxygen and cleansing nature of protecting our great wilderness has a far reaching effect of helping combat climate change, which will be the greatest threat our race has ever had to try and overcome.

We are doing too little to protect our great Country and environment and with mining companies not rehabilitating their sites and lying about the impacts on the environment I am horrified to think of what impact this mining will have on the people, wildlife and the water table in this amazing area.

I strongly object to mining of any form in sensitive ecosystems.

Companies need to stop obsessing over money!!! thats all they care about even though the environment and animals (including us humans) will suffer, and thats so sad that they dont care

I oppose the establisment of a gasfield and processing facility in the Piliga for numerous reasons.
1. The Piliga forest is a nationally significant & irreplaceable woodland ecology that would suffer severe damage from clearing, roading and fire as a result of this proposal. Rare, threatened and endangered flora and fauna would be driven closer toward extinction by converting this forest to a gasfield. This is completely unacceptable for a project that is likely to become a stranded asset and return little or no net economic benefit to Australia
2. The artesian basin and all local water catchments would be severely compromised with over exploitation and pollution. Fossil fuel exploitation has been proven to be extremely damaging to water supplies where ever it is tolerated. On the driest inhabited continent on earth we must prioritise our long term water supplies over short term marginal projects like this proposal.
3. Our planet's climate is clearly in chaos due largely to fossil fuel exploitation. When all fugitive emissions are consideredl gas mining is only marginally less destructive than coal (or indeed worse). It is incumbant upon all of us to only make decisions and permit actions that will as quickly as possible our economy toward a zero carbon state. This proposal will acheive the opposite and so must be opposed.
4. Local farmers and traditional owners are opposed to this proposal for all the reasons listed above as well as the health impacts on humans and livestock that gas mining would impose on them. Also there would be significant cultural impacts on the local community if this proposal were approved. Across NSW citizens have made it overwhelmingly clear that fossil fuel development has no social license.
5. Santos has proven itself incapable of managing this project without severe impact on the environment and community. They have presided over an intolerable system of water wastage and contamination. Over 20 spills and leaks from their preliminary activities have lead to the uncontrolled release of Uranium, lead, arsenic and other heavy metals, salts and chemicals into our water supply. This is intolerable and should on its own constitute grounds for refusing this application.

This is a 19th century project proposed for the 21st century. The time for licensing fossil fuel exploitation has passed. A stable climate, sustainable water supplies, ecological, human and farm produce health and cultural heritage are of significantly greater short medium and long term value to NSW than this extremely marginal short term project.

For all these reasons I implore you to refuse this proposal.

I'm all for progress and job creation and have in fact have worked in the coal and gas industry myself for many years but there are some projects I simply cannot stand behind and this is one of them.
Come on guys, the impact that this will have on this biodiversity hot spot area is simply not worth it. Not to mention the impacts we've seen with coal seem gas in relation to water quality in already developed areas.
This project makes no sense and I urge you to get your head out of your arses and stop this one dead in its tracks.

I am totally opposed to coal seam gas in the Pilliga. It's time the government listened to the people that are "the Pilliga".

It's time to listen to what the public wants and stop looking at destroying the environment for money. Politicians are meant to be working for the people, so start doing it!

I firmly believe, based on many presentations and personal stories, that in the near future further disruption to the Artisian Basin will cause extreme hardship to our country and damage large parts of our food supply and prosperity.

In the VERY near future our need for available sources of unpolluted water and arrible farm land will be the most important issues our country faces. Also any potential damage to existing farmland and environmental areas for short term gain are usually done to the detriment of those who have existing and future interests in the land and lead to future neglect of those areas.

Please consider our future stability with the earth as an asset that should not be for sale to feather your own pockets you selfish p#%cks because all politicians are really interested in are returns that fall within the stretch of your own pathetic careers instead of the good of all our futures. I know you don't even realise what you are doing half the time. "Creating wealth now for future generations" only holds up for exponential expansion against unlimited resources. This is a fallacy that is obviously flawed.

A good start to reclaiming your ebbing morality would be to deny mining and fracking in the Artisian basin.
Next you might turn your rhetoric to helping people appreciate moral choices too.

I object to it on so many levels I strongly urge you to be brave, be the pioneer who saves Australia's best assets; our unique landscape and go down in history as the man who understood that tough decisions needed to be made for our future children. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE CONCERNS;

1. We, the Australian people, are responsible to look after our Great Australian Basin--Australia's largest groundwater aquifer and the Narrabri gasfield poses a real risk to our two most precious water resources: the Great Artesian Basin and the Murray-Darling Basin.PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR PEOPLE

2. The Gamilaraay Traditional Custodians are objecting this happening to their land. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE TRADITIONAL CUSTODIANS

3. Farmers and other local community reject the project. Don't ignore the local surveys of 96% of objections. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

4. The Narrabri Gas Project has a long history of spills and leaks of toxic CSG water--Santos cannot be trusted to manage the project. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE HIGH RISK FACTS & HISTORY OF SANTOS

5. The Pilliga is a haven for threatened wildlife
The Pilliga is one of 15 nationally listed `biodiversity hotspots' and is vital to the survival of many threatened species. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE ANIMALS

6. Coal seam gas fuels dangerous climate change. PLEASE LISTEN TO CLIMATE CHANGE EXPERTS

7. Human health is compromised by coal seam gas. PLEASE LISTEN TO HEALTH REPORTS

8. The nation's premier optical astronomical observatory is at risk. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE ASTRONOMERS

9. Thousands of tonnes of salt waste will result from the project. PLEASE LISTEN TO SANTOS INABILITY TO DISPOSE OF SALT

As the Great Artesian Basin is so important to many facets of life in the country I cannot ever support ANY CSG operation to impact on it for such little gain.
I therefore implore you to follow Victoria's example an refrain altogether from this abhorrent act, before the basin and environment in this area becomes ruined.

I disagree that we should mine this area. Totally against CGS and it has devastating effects on the environment. Please stop this.

We need clean and green energy. Not this, to poison water, land and people.

Stop wrecking everything, just for short term gain. It's insane what some people would do for extra money. Not as if they don't have enough already. Don't destroy our beautiful Australia for this. We've destroyed enough already. When is this madness going to stop?

The fossil fuel giant, Santos, has finally released its plans to drill 850 coal seam gas wells right through the heart of the Pilliga forest and through the Great Artesian Basin.
I completely reject this attack on a most significant part of Australia's environment. Our water resource is crucial and Santos has no right to place it in jeopardy.
I call on the NSW Government to intervene to stop this vandalism.

I am strongly opposed to Santos' proposal to develop a large scale gas field in the Pilliga region.

Construction of 850 gas wells and associated infrastructure will have an unacceptable impact on native fauna and flora, fragmenting vital habitat in a region that has already experienced high levels of historical land clearing.

The overwhelming majority of local residents are opposed to the development, due to risks to essential groundwater resources.

I urge you to reject this ill-conceived proposal.
