I hope so. The elephants in the room are clean water and climate change.

I object to this project.
Following are the reasons:
l It will extract over 35 billion litres of toxic groundwater, much of it in the first five years. This water will be treated and in the early years will generate tens of thousands of tonnes of salt, for which there is no safe disposal plan. 
It will clear close to 1,000 hectares of the Pilliga Forest, fragmenting the largest temperate woodland in New South Wales, home to unique wildlife. 
It will cause significant diversion of water from a recharge aquifer of the Great Artesian Basin, which is a water resource relied upon by rural communities across western NSW. 
It will lead to large deliberate and fugitive emissions of methane, adding to climate change. 
It will cause more trauma to the regional Aboriginal community because the area of impact is crucially important to the spiritual, cultural and social life of Gamilaraay people.
It is not justified: Santos' own Coal Seam Gas export activities in Queensland have caused gas prices to rise and supply to become unpredictable. NSW should respond to this by investing in more reliable and ultimately cheaper renewable energy, not by letting Santos inflict more environmental, social and economic harm. 
It will cause economic upheaval in Narrabri and put agricultural industries at risk, as well as causing light pollution that will ruin the dark night sky needed by the internationally renowned Siding Spring Observatory. 
Coal Seam Gas is harmful to health. Neither the NSW Government nor Santos have investigated or dealt with the serious health effects of coal seam gas now appearing in peer-reviewed research in the United States.

Our Great Artesian Basin is a precious water resource for many parts of Australia on a continent that is considered one of the driest. Our family communities (I grew up on a property that relied heavily on this natural resource, especially in dry times which is happening more now than ever before) cannot afford to have this extremely important resource damaged in any way. Santos runs the risk of doing this as well as upsetting the salt levels. They have no solution for the deposit of thousands of tonnes of salt it will produce. Santos has already been in breach with over 20 reported spills and leaks from storage ponds, pipes and well heads and contaminating a freshwater aquifer with high uranium levels that is unsafe for drinking.
Can we not learn from what is happening in QLD, what a disgrace! Can the government finally come to terms with the fact that Climate Change is real and allowing this project to go ahead will add to the dangerous climatic changes that we are experiencing. Coal and gas are old, look to the future with renewables. They too will employ thousands of people and allow for Jobs and Growth that the government is pushing.
It is a NO brainer, don't allow CSG into the Pilliga. They will not only affect generations of humans to come but also affect important wildlife in the area. Move to solar and renewables. Don't wreck what has taken thousands of millions of years to generate and destroy in a matter of years.

I have taken the time to educate myself in the practises of Santos and I have full confidence that they can complete the project with minimal impact on the environment.
Being a farmer, I understand that every industry has a footprint and an impact on the environment - including agriculture.
However, I know Santos will manage this in the best way. Furthermore, the project is based in an area that is zoned for mineral extraction. For decades prior to Santos coming to our area, the Pilliga scrub has been used for the timber milling industry. To have a new purpose for this state owned land is marvellous.

There are so many reasons this project is untenable it is difficult to know where to begin. This project will destroy so many things, among them are:
Precious koala habitat
World class astronomy due to the exceptional darkness in the area
The intrinsic beauty of a true inland wilderness
The spirit of the local koori people who are vehemently against this
The health of the surrounding ding communities. The atrocious health of children in Tara must be thoroughly investigated before any informed decision can be made
Precious farmland. It is well known that the Pilliga is just the thin edge of the wedge, it will then spread into the fertile surrounding farmland. Santos leases reach from the Qld border to Dubbo and across to Tamworth. If you sign off on this this state will lose some of it's most precious farmland.
The peace and harmony of NSW. This project will face unprecedented opposition and like the Bentley CSG blockade will tie up many hundreds of police which will needlessly threaten the safety of the public.
The water quality of the Namoi River and Great Artesian Basin. The Leewood reverse osmosis water treatment plant is completely incapable of removing the radioactivity of the produced water. Santos already has caused uranium to contaminate local bores. Poisoning water is a crime and cannot be tolerated.
The quality of soil. The Leewood plant will produce literal mountains of poisonous unusable salt of which they have no plans of disposal.
I thank you for your time and beg you to follow both your heart and mind and reject this nightmarish proposal.

Despite Santos' claims, the destructive nature of this industry cannot be avoided or controlled and therefore should NOT be permitted to continue.
I have lived and worked on farms in the Gunnedah region, I know how much the people of NSW rely on the produce from this area, I am aware of how much the towns rely upon the income generated from agriculture, and I know just how significant and precious our under ground water is - it is vital to our survival.
It is unacceptable and irresponsible to risk our long-standing food bowl for an uncertain, short-term gain.
Dont let Santos put our water at risk!
