The unique, delicate and simply beautiful ecological balance of the Pillaga region is being risked for what could only be regarded as mindless greed. Such environmental and cultural vandalism in the face of other more Eco friendly energy alternatives asks for people with great wisdom to discern the cross benefits and disadvantages.
It then takes visionary leadership to stand up and say, 'No! We do not need to take this path!'
It's well and truly time that our political, community and business leaders opened their vision to understand the consequences that projects such as this one have on our national landscape and our children's children's future. And it is our cultural, historical and, in the long run, our economic landscape as well as the physical landscape that is vandalised.
I ask who among you would be proud to admit to your great grandchildren that you allowed such wasteful destruction to occur?
I implore you to reject this proposal and any like it. And encourage, instead, these companies to explore more mindful projects that will create positive futures for all and not simply a short term wealth for a few.
Clearly, if we forge a less destructive path in energy solutions, there are longer term economic gains to be had.
Yours Faithfully,
Pauline Mackinnon

Creeks in the Pilliga run into the Namoi River--a part of the Murray Darling Basin. This system is vulnerable to contamination from drilling fluid spills and the salty treated water produced from the proposed 850 wells.
