The Bungendore High School P&C Association acknowledges the efforts of the Department of Education to further improve the plans for the High School facilities.

The P&C are in support of the proposed design to deliver contemporary facilities to service and support the school and wider Bungendore community.

We look forward to working with the Department throughout an expeditious and collaborative delivery phase, and into the future for the delivery of high quality public secondary education within our community.

A new high school is much needed in our area. Without a high school in Bungendore my boys will have to spend 1hr each way travelling to and from Goulburn for high school.

I am objecting to the proposal to build a high school on part of Bungendore park and specifically to the removal of 76 existing trees, I note that the DOE have revised this amount to now only 75 trees to be removed however the addition of one tree to remain is quite pathetic. Some of these trees have been growing on our park for many years, they have weathered the droughts and other various weather conditions that they have had to endure and have added to the visual aspect of our park. I note that apparently these mature tress will be replaced with numerous other plantings that apparently will increase the canopy cover by 50 percent. This will not be instant, it takes many many years for trees to reach their maturity, and that is if they actually survive or are not vandalized first. It is astounding that the DOE can think it is ok to vandalize our park by removing so many existing mature trees and think that by planting small immature replacements this would not affect the ambiance of our park and be acceptable to our community. This proposal needs to be rethought, the proposed school needs to be relocated and our park needs to be left for the whole Bungendore community to enjoy. Please leave our park alone.

I object to the proposal
The reasons are that there is no facility or planning for buses between schools drop off and pick up even at staggered times
There is not enough parking even now and can't be without using state rail and private land to park on
The buildings shown on the plans do not fit on the land available without moving then oval Approximately 20 metres short
The public oval will not be available during school hours that includes public toilets, children's playground and tennis courts
Houses on Turallo Tce will have their frontages used for park parking well beyond what is shown a designated parking
High school is on the wrong side of floodway from the proposed population centre
Access is not available in heavy rain events which may result in students not being able to return to their houses as is the case with the current primary school which wa but when there was no development across the creek
There is no room for any expansion as will be required in the future with the agricultural area proposed within major flooway posing a risk to students staff and existing dwellings due to structures and fencing in a major floodway
This is a poorly, ill considered proposal that would be detrimental to the town and the usable green space within the village
This represents very poor planning and should be comprehensively rejected before it goes any further
The existing council chambers, which wee meant to be the last ever required by QPRC could be used for many other community purposes
This must be stopped

I am objecting to this proposal of a High School being built on Bungendore Park, Majara Street and the Common in Bungendore. There are other options. It is a town in the middle of the countryside. Another plot of land could be obtained for this purpose.

I have never seen a worse project in government. I would warn that the education department is not being truthful. I asked them about garbage collection and they said the trucks had a turning circle, I looked at the cad drawing behind them and there were two cars parked on the turning circle. A local scientist/ professor did a traffic study with open methology, his findings contradicted the traffic study produced by the department. The whole process is a farce. The site is just too small and ruins valuable town assets. A supporter of the proposal said she went to an overseas school that didnt have adequate recreational space and she got a phd. Can the proposers of this monstrosity of stupidity guareentee that every student will sit in their class room till they get a phd? Cars backing in and out of a busy street how ridiculous. An ag lab smaller than a chook pen. etc. etc.

As per my previous submission I object to a High School being built on Bungendore Park, in the centre of the town. This is the most ridiculous project given the scope of options and land around the town which could be used.
The congestion from traffic for the Pre-school, Primary school and now this High school will be far to much for the few roads leading all the buses and cars into this area.
There are proposals to turn Turallo Terrace into a parking lot. This is the dress circle of Bungendore. It has many historic buildings and should be protected from this project.
I object to Bungendore Common being used as an Agricultural Plot for the High School. It is our land for our use as a community to walk on and take our dogs/horses etc on. We have the only two horses left in Bungendore and they live on the Common. We have to move them every time in rains as the Common floods. Who is going to move the animals in the Ag Plot when rain comes?
There has not been enough done to ensure that this project is not being built on an Aboriginal grave which the older community members know exists.
The Mick Sherd oval was moved once John Barilaro announced this ridiculous proposal and this means the High School is on more of the Parkland than would have been available beforehand. There is so little greenspace in Bungendore that the High School should not be taking away greenspace and replacing with buildings and concrete paths. This is not good for the environment and there is a social and psychological impact of crowding it into the centre of the town's park.

I am pleased the Bungendore high school project is making progress.

The timing of the start next year, 2023, is valuable to my family. I have two daughters who will benefit greatly from the access to a local high school.

I support the proposed Majura street site location. The site being central to town, suitable for teenagers to be at the heart of the community and great for the primary school and residence to have access to new facilities.

As a long term resident I was excited to see the original design as being architecturally stunning. Something to be proud off.

The current redesign, although a good compromise from all submissions, in my view has hampered the talented, well trained and creative architects from being able to do their best work.

These projects are best handled by experts not personal or lobbyist agendas.

I would like to object to submission 49141486.

The changes proposed do not address the loss of a site of significant historical and social importance to the Bungendore community present and future. These changes do not address concerns I raised in my previous submission.

Parking - Traffic
I object to the proposed parking arrangements intended for Turalla Terrace and the effects this will have on residents and traffic flow in and out of the Pre School, Scout Hall and the additional day care being constructed near by. This planning change is a risk to the wellbeing of our youngest residents.

Safety - Where do the students in years 11/12 park, out the front of the pre school would not be appropriate, who polices this, parents, teachers?

Turalla Terrace is of historical importance just like the Bungendore Park and should remain as is for future generations to enjoy. Gibraltar Street is a double road and is designed for commercial use being the Main Street of Bungendore with parking in the centre and a more appropriate site for pick up/drop off, Turalla Terrace is a narrow country street flanked by residential premises on one side and a pre school, this plan is disruptive to those living on Turalla Terrace and a danger to the nearby pre-school.

Loss of green space
Bungendore Park has over the past 12 months seen a loss of area to an expanded children's play area and an expanding Tennis club both funded by the NSW government and taking up significant green space, this park was built like other country towns all over Australia for the purpose of providing a green space in the centre of the township. Squeezing a very large much needed and important development on such a small site with no room for expansion in a town with so much surrounding land is irresponsible and not in the resident's of Bungendore best interest.

Loss of community facilities

I object to the loss of community facilities to allow a development that has no room for expansion to be constructed when there are many sites more appropriate with room for expansion. Community health, play group and after school care and the swimming pool are and will be sacrificed with some now squeezed into other spaces and others to eventually move into a community hub in years to come, in the meantime the community goes with out these essential services.

New Plan proposed expansion area

The proposed expansion area on the new plan is totally inadequate for a town expanding at at fast rate, new developments with over 700 houses to be built in the next two years and the census data indicating the average age in this town is 38, this school will be totally inadequate for the ever expanding population of families.

School recreation/lunch areas

I object to the lack of playground/ outside space, where do students hang out, there is little to no space for hundreds of students to have lunch or just hang out apart from the public oval, children's play ground and the railway to the back.

Planning for lunch areas and general hang out areas is essential for learning and well being. With the garden area marked on the plan as a future expansion area there will be little room for students to enjoy the outside.

I support the current plans although I thought the position of the playing courts should have stayed in the original position between gym and tennis courts. The original position would have suited community use and allowed additional room for future expansion of classrooms, on the east side of the gym, should it be required in the future.
Overall the design looks great and efficient use of space. Look forward to approvals proceeding and construction beginning.

I support the current Bungendore high school proposed site and development proposal. I look forward to seeing the updated design built in 2023. I have one child that aims to return to high school in Bungendore once the new school is built (currently in Year 7), and one younger child that will benefit greatly in the future from the high school built in our community as he has additional needs and will feel comfortable in a familiar environment in our community. My oldest child was not able to attend a local high school and I think that this was to their detriment. We have thought about leaving Bungendore to move into Canberra for this reason. I hope for a quick resolution as its important for those children that thought the new school would be built in a timely manner (in 2023) have the opportunity to attend using the new facilities, and not need to remain on the primary school oval for any length of time. I also look forward to the the much needed investment in the community including the sports facilities, pool, community centre and basketball courts.

FORMAL OBJECTION to SSDA-14394209
Dear Sir or Madam,

NEW HIGH SCHOOL IN BUNGENDORE
APPLICATION NO. SSD-14394209

I refer to the above state-significant development application.

I strongly object to the proposed High School being built on Bungendore Park

The Park has played a huge role in the culture and life of the town ever since it was dedicated in 1884. It is well placed for tourists and as most of the businesses in town rely on tourism to stay viable this confirms that the park is vitally important to the economy of the village.

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment selected a site through the EOI process and were on the verge of getting a build licence. This site ticked all the selection criteria boxes, is flat and not in the flood zone. It is also adjacent to a major housing development which is currently being constructed with further housing developments approved nearby.
A site in East Bungendore was offered to the department FREE of CHARGE and was excluded for no other reason than it was east of the railway line!
A suitable site on Trucking Yard Lane was considered by the Department of Education. According to an email from the Department, this site was excluded because of obscure reasons such as:
“having poor road infrastructure and will require additional roads, is in an area with unknown infrastructure capacity (power, water, communications, and sewerage), and has poor pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, wasn’t mapped for biodiversity constraints, required flood mapping and would need to be rezoned to permit a school.”
Did anyone actually go to this site? It is within 2.5klms of the centre of town and has housing estates on two boundaries. It is well serviced and has footpaths that will take you down Ellendon Street into the village or along Majara Street and meets up with the main footpaths which pass the Primary School on the way to Elmslea.
Why is the Department trying so hard to make the Park a suitable site for the High School?
Why are we, the taxpayers, paying approximately $71m when a bigger high school proposed at nearby Jerrabomberra which will have an area of 4.5ha and cost much less?

Please reject this application outright.

As a long term Bungendore resident whose children and grandchildren have grown up in Bungendore I strongly support the high school project. I have looked at the revised designs and talked about them with my grandchildren, who are looking forward to going to school in this new, delightful and well designed school. I believe that any issues with additional parking and traffic needs can be worked through by the Department of Education and the Council with good will on both sides. The children and families around Bungendore are crying out for a new high school. A lot of my friends are saying 'for goodness sake just approve the plans and get it built". A few people have tried to give the impression that older people in Bungendore are opposed to the school but this is not true - many are looking forward to it being built and operating as soon as possible for the children who will attend it and also to take the pressure off the primary school children who have lost their playground to the temporary 'pop up' school. The school looks good, the Department has taken community concerns into account and made a number of changes, please approve it as soon as possible.

I object to the High School being built on Bungendore Park as parking and traffic will be chaotic and dangerous - it is BAD PLANNING. The Amendments solve nothing and the end result is totally without merit when the available options are considered. At the end of the day the submission is not viable and the Government knows this and by tinkering with the details is not going to make it acceptable for the community now or into the future.
