Myself and Alexandra Roach are tenants of 11 Woodburn St, submitting an objection alongside our neighbours at 9 Woodburn St to the proposed Mixed Use Co-living Housing Development at 175-177 Cleveland St, 1-5 and 6-8 Woodburn St. The property we are renting is a part of a row of three two-storey terrace houses built in 1888.

As proposed in Wendy Crane’s (property owner of 9 Woodburn St) objection report submitted on 29/11/22, there are a number of key issues we would like to object to.

The only facade of the building that has been taking into consideration in the drawings package provided to the public does not take into account the impacts the proposed height, bulk and scale of seven storeys will have in the Eveleigh St and Woodburn St public domains. We believe there should be accurate shadow diagrams to show the influence of the height, bulk and scale of this development on surrounding buildings, including the residence at 11 Woodburn St.

We argue that the examples given by the developer of Scape Student Accommodation and Iglu Student Accommodation are not relevant in the context and neighbourhood character of the site. This is evident in the transitional scale in heights between terrace housing on Eveleigh St and the Scape Student tower. This is not present in the proposed scheme and are at risk of overshadowing neighbouring buildings, including 9-11 Woodburn St and jeopardising the character of our block in Redfern.

We believe the proposed scheme does not respond to the scale, form and design of surrounding development, and in its current state object to this proposal moving forward.

It's great that more apartments are being built close to the city for the residents of Sydney. For a CBD co-living development, it doesn't seem to be very tall though.
