Transport and Infrastructure SEPP Amendment

The Moorebank Freight Intermodal Precinct is a nationally significant infrastructure development. It will transform the way freight moves through Port Botany, to deliver a faster, simpler, and more cost-effective service for business and consumers.

The precinct will be an important driver in protecting and strengthening the NSW and Australian economy. It is anticipated an estimated $11 billion in economic benefits and approximately 6,800 jobs will be created over the lifetime of the project.

In 2022, the NSW Government introduced an additional chapter to the State Environmental Planning Policy (Transport and Infrastructure) 2021,  that will apply to the Moorebank Freight Intermodal Precinct.

The new chapter  will:

  • provide a consistent and efficient planning process for development of the Moorebank Freight Intermodal Precinct
  • streamline assessment processes to speed up delivery of low impact development within the precinct.
  • provide greater flexibility for approved development within the precinct, including allowing an increase in height for specific areas of the site.

An explanation of intended effect (EIE) was on public exhibition from 16 August to 27 September 2021.
