Local Environmental Plan

The process of creating Local Environmental Plans (LEPs) starts with a planning proposal which in most cases is undertaken by your local council. Proposals are then submitted for assessement by the Department of Planning & Environment (DPE) to determine whether they have sufficient merit to proceed. This is called "The Gateway".

State Environmental Planning Policy

The Governor may make environmental planning instruments for the purpose of environmental planning by the State. Any such instrument may be called a State Environmental Planning Policy (or SEPP).

Development Control Plans

A Development Control Plan provides detailed planning and design guidelines to support the planning controls in the Local Environmental Plan developed by a council. Each council is required to publish their Development Control Plan/s on the Planning Portal.

Local Strategic Planning Statements

In March 2018, amendments to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act) introduced new requirements for councils to prepare a Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS).
