The NSW Government will implement new planning controls for 36 - 50 Cumberland Street, the Rocks (the Sirius site) to guide any future redevelopment or re-use of the building.
An amendment to the State Significant Precinct State Environmental Planning Policy (SSP SEPP) is now in place, and will apply the following planning controls to the site:
- Change zoning to B8 (Metropolitan Centre) and parking provisions consistent with the Sydney LEP.
- Provide greater flexibility for the retention and/or adaptive re-use of the existing building, by allowing for variations to development standards whilst ensuring respect for heritage of the surrounding locality.
- Clarify existing provisions that apply design excellence to any redevelopment of the existing building and to strengthen provisions to recognise the heritage importance of the adjacent area.
- Amend the active street requirement to include Gloucester Walk.
The State Environmental Planning Policy Amendment (36-50 Cumberland Street, The Rocks - Sirius Site) 2018 was finalised in August 2018. For more information visit the NSW Legislation website.
The proposed planning controls were on public exhibition from 7 December 2017 to 16 February 2018.
