I am a 24 years old and bought a house in portland 4 years ago because its a great community for my family to grow up in as of all the local industry . As of late it as suffered due to high Australian dollar and has been affecting the local business . I believe it will be an absolute disgrace to see this not go a head because it will not only affect the 300 workers there but it will have a chain affect over the community as Angus place support so many other local business I don't think you understand this . It would be an absolute shame to see the local area have to pack up and move as there will be no work around. The towns that once were full of family will become ghost towns . So please take this into consideration it is not only affecting Angus place it affects the whole central west .

I do not believe this is a safe practice. It is harmful to the environment. Therefore I cannot support this. I object to it.
Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

The reason for my concern over this project is a number of residents in the Blue Mountains and Lithgow area including myself and family are suffering from the effects of low frequency sound or infrasound which is similar in effect to wind turbine syndrome. Due to the frequency and consistency of this hum or shaking it is considered to be unlikely train or traffic noise as this noise can last for hours days or weeks without rest and varies in intensity from a noticeable hum to a vibration felt through the body. I feel this may have something to do with mine ventilation which is the only constant source of operation capable of producing sound energy at these frequencies. I have also noticed a decline in native animal activity in the area in the time since the infra sound has propagated . I would like to ask the Director General to examine the cause of this problem and in conjunction with the appropriate authorities find the cause and eliminate it.
In conclusion I am looking forward to Centennial Coal continuing its operations into the future with a positive impact on the local community

Dear Sir/Madam,
State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)
Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.
Yours sincerely,
A. Froud

Dear Sir/Madam,
Re: State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)
As a former resident of some 20 years at Faulconbridge in the Blue Mountains, I am quite familiar with the area and wish to lodge my objection on a number of grounds.
There are important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region which must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
It is extremely disappointing to know that the Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals were not subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings; particularly in the light of Centennial Coal's track record in the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations - already damaging significant swampland. To give them a license to damage another 22 seems surprising.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal were allowed at it.

The Angus mine extension should not receive planning approval and at least should be subject to stringent planning assessment.
They propose to mine under the Newnes Plateau with its magnificent pagodas. To subject these to cracking from inevitable subsidence totally undermines the reason for having these areas protected.
Subsidence will also inevitably crack and therefore drain many of the natural hanging swamps in the area. Apart from the biodiversity loss; draining these areas of valuable moisture has a significant effect on future bush fires. Natural moisture helps slow the advance of fires and any-one complicit in their demise must also be held accountable for fire increase.
Headwaters of pristine creeks, that flow through our national parks, will also be subject to pollution and degradation.
With the current over supply of coal we should not be allowing damage to our most beautiful assets for a few dollars of profit

Extending Angus Place mining will be very beneficial to the local area of Lithgow and surrounding regions such as Wallerawang in providing jobs and new job opportunities which is very valuable since the closure of the power station that resulted in a loss of a number of jobs.
Angus Place does a lot for the local community in providing financial sponsorship and donations to local sporting teams and charities. Just this weekend they donated $5000 to the Cancer Council in a community event Bender/Rushworth walk from Portland to Wang, with many of the miners participating.
In my job specifically I am involved with Centennial Coal workers, including Angus Place, with assisting injured workers in returning to their normal duties in the mining industry and providing exercise rehabilitation. Extending the mine would extend our business relationship with Centennial Coal and Angus Place.

Angus place colliery has a reputation for coal extraction with great sympathy shown to the environment and utilises worlds best practises to minimise any negative impact on its mine sites. The mine not only employs significant numbers of local people but is also involved with local charities and sponsorships. If this mine is not granted these expansions it will be a massive hole in the local economy and something Lithgow and surrounds may never recover from.

When are you people going to look at the devastation caused by mining and the irreparable damage being done to our land and just stop? It is insanity to destroy our water and land and people for the sake of a short term money advantage. An advantage that will be lost later as in Qld and America right now when the mines need to be capped. Please , use your. God given intelligence and conscience and just stop before it is too late!

This is publicly owned land that is some of the most unique and beautiful land in Australia, it is a superb recreational resource for the people of Sydney and Australia. I have bushwalked in some of these areas and it has been inspirational and enriching to the soul to be among the magnificent stone pagodas, soaring cliffs and forests. It seems incredibly short term thinking to be considering allowing mining of any type in this environment.
Please preserve these areas for the future enjoyment of our growing population and the preservation of the biodiversity of flora and fauna they support.

Dear Sir/Madam,
In regards to the State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602) I am horrified that such a proposal is even being considered !
I have never had the privilege or opportunity, to visit this amazing looking place. Having just now seen the pictures of it, I am appalled that I may never get the chance to one day visit, it and explore, and enjoy these magnificent rock formations, which I seriously now wish to do.
I agree whole-heartedly with these points below, and wish the NSW Department of Planning & Infrastructure, to listen and represent the will of The People, NOT the Mining Companies.
Once it is gone, it is Lost Forever !

*Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
*The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
*Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
*The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
*The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
*The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
*Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
*Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Bannon
