State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)
I object strongly to the proposal for longwall mining that can damage the Gardens of Stone region, and ask that the features and landforms of this magnificent area be protected. It is of world standard scenery.
In particular,
Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

I strongly object to the above proposal. This area should be a tourist attraction. It should be preserved for our children. It is irreplacable.
Clifflines, pagodas, upland swamps are damaged by longwall mining. This is a fact that is not argued. We cannot steal this amazing heritage from our children and grandchildren. These unique environs and the rivers and streams need to be protected in a national park.

As someone who has loved and visited this area for many years, I cannot fathom why you would even consider granting an extension to the longwall maining operations at Angus Place. The Gardens of Stone area and the Wolgan, Marangaroo, and Coxs rivers are some of the most wild, ecologically significant and beautiful places in Australia (if not the world). Centennial Coal already have a proven track record of environmental disregard and destruction. The damage that will be caused if this goes ahead will be immeasurable - not just in our generation, but for generations to come. We must preserve places such as the Gardens of Stone and it's surrounds from short sighted greed such as this. YOU have responsibility for this now. Please think wisely and beyond the petty constraints of here and now. Think of future generations.
I urge you to consider the following in relation to the mine extension:
* Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
* The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.

Thank you for your time in considering this information. Please act wisely and well, for the long term, not the short term. Make a decision that future generations will be proud of.

Angus Place supports our young family as well as my cousins, uncles & friends. Our family have a long history in the mines in the Lithgow area. They also are the largely responsible for all major sponsorship within the local community, especially the vast sporting events held in our community. Local business would not survive if the mining ceased operation. We all spend our money in our community.
Angus Place offers employment opportunities & will continue to support current workforce, which in a small community is a lot of people. They also have a fantastic track record for mining in our district with minimal impact on the flora & fauna. Angus Place plays a big part also in supplying coal for our local electricity generation.
If Angus Place ceased operation all of our family would need to relocate from this area in which we are born & bred. This would also pose serious problems as who would buy our homes?
I 100% support the expansion of Springvale & Angus Place.

To Whom it May Concern;
I am contacting you regarding my serious concerns with respect to the Angus Place Mine Extension Project. I have extensive knowledge of the region having been involved as a wildlife contractor in a fauna survey of the Gardens of Stone NP for the Office of Environment and Heritage and of threatened woodland birds occurring outside conservation reserves in the Capertee and Wolgan Valleys and adjoining areas also for the Office of Environment and Heritage. My particular concerns include:
*Potential impacts on significant fauna values in the region including within the adjacent Gardens of Stone NP; including a number of species listed as threatened under State and Commonwealth legislation.
*Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
*The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
*Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.

If Australia were a person - Coal power is like a tasty fast food burger, great in the moment, but damaging in the long run.
Renewable energy is like fruit and veggies, a little boring, but you'll feel so much better when you're older.
A wise, responsible government will choose the more difficult, long term benefits over the destructive short-term benefits.
Please do not destroy our incredible land.

Sedgman Limited supports the Centennial Angus Place Mine extension project. The Angus Place mine
extension will allow development of the mine into new coal deposit areas and hence allow for further coal
extraction. Subsequently, the extracted coal will be used for domestic users (Lithgow power stations for
electiricty generation) or for export.
The revenue generated from coal mining not only contributes to Centennial Coal, but it also contributes to
the NSW government and taxpayers through coal mining royalties. This benefits the state of NSW. More
directly, the Angus Place Mine extension project will add security to the employment of coal mine workers,
as well as indirectly supporting companies offering products and services to the coal mining industry. The
net effect of this will be positive both for the local Central West and NSW economies.
Furthermore, the Angus Place mine extension will allow further projects to proceed, in the form of the
Centennial Western Coal Services project. The progression of these projects bodes postively for the coal
services sector, which currently is under severe economic strain.
The Angus Place Mine extension is a positive project and should be allowed to proceed.

Dear Sir/Madam,
State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)
I am very concerned by the lack of concern for the value of water in one of the driest continent on the planet. Not thinking about the consequences of actions chosen by a commercial project is incredibly unsavoury and unintelligent.
- I find that an additional ventilation facility proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
- The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent is SHOCKING!
The project is childish when reverse osmosis technology could remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Cox River.
- Once again, Australia looks STUPID on the International scene in a decision that chooses the pollution of Carne Creek and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area currently in a pristine state.
This creek must not run bright orange, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
- Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes.
I would like responsible care for resources be chosen.
Of course it is more expensive to be responsible and concerned in avoiding pollution however, engineering and technology do exist. And long term view should be of value.
I expect DUTY OF CARE from your Department.
Yours sincerely,
Marina E. Olivier
