It helps with economy, strategic situation in the world,
it helps in local community by creating jobs and keeping local and small businesses running.
Tens of thousands of people direct and indirect relying on steel making.
It helps construction industry and helps with affordable houses.
It helps in defence force and reduces dependency on other countries.
The existing blast Furness which keeps all the downstream ecosystem up and running, is coming to end of its life. If the proposed project for relining blast furnace 6 doesn’t go ahead, whole country will be in crises.
This is a serious matter, tens of thousands of our people will be out of job at once. Even banks will be affected badly as they will not be able to claim thousands of mortgages.
It is not only the economy aspect, too many people out of job creates a devastating social and mental disaster in our society.
People who are against this project must wake up and see the reality of the existing world. The climate problem didn’t happen overnight, we, humankind, created this problem in centuries and now by revolutionary, radical, irresponsible solutions not only we will not solve the problem but also, we will make it too far worse.
Please be realistic and help this project to go ahead and make sure they do their best to reduce the impact of steel making on environment.

I support the project at it guarantees steel making in the illawarra for the near future and allows bluescope the time to develop green steel technology for their blast furnace. It would be devastating if steel making in the illawarra ceased, costing thousands of jobs and huge financial impacts to the area.

In the current international climate, with war in Ukraine and with China are becoming increasingly antagonistic, it is imperative that Australia maintains the ability to manufacture key products. The ability to manufacture steel is critical to our national security.
The Port Kembla steelworks is woven into the cultural and historical fabric of the Illawarra area. The re-line of the Number 6 blast furnace will provide additional jobs during planning and construction, and will underpin future employment in the region. BlueScope steel also has a long track record of supporting local suppliers and subcontractors.
From my observations, it appears BlueScope Steel is fully committed to wide range of environmental improvements. They put a lot of effort into minimizing visual and noise pollution, as well as airborne and waterborne emissions, and are moving towards energy efficiency wherever possible.
This project has my support.
