As stated with my previous objection. This takes up valuable green space, taking away numerous fields and open areas. And then add future developments surrounding the Stadium these fields should remain as they are. The development should be on there current site, not a new site destroying some of the few remaining open spaces in this area.

I object to the development. The location of the facility is taking away green space from the community and the school. It's flood prone and that area has serious traffic issues already. The name of the venue is Hunter Indoor Sports Centre. This is misleading. I can see no ability for other sports to use the facility - they don't have any access to the current basketball stadium so why would they be able to use this facility? Surely there are better pieces of land to use that don't impact so many other members of the community. This development has done nothing but divide the community - everyone knows we need a new basketball stadium - but why put it in such a stupid, contentious location? So disappointing.

I am strongly opposed to the development at this location for the following reasons:
- Lack of initial consultation and subsequent poor community consultation in determining the site.
- Loss of green space.
- Loss of playing space for other sporting codes
- Loss of amenity for nearby residents
- Loss of evacuation space, playing space, recreation space for Lambton High School. Lambton HS students will be severely impacted by this change.
- Severe flooding impacts, the current ovals act as flood overflow and the 90% concrete replacing will cause flooding impacts on nearby residents in Monash Rd, Gloucester Ave, Duke St, Marina Ave etc.
- Severe parking impacts on nearby residents (Newcastle Basketball’s reports explicitly state that nearby streets can and will absorb traffic overflow).
- Traffic issues on Turton Rd from entry and exit of hundreds of vehicles to and from the stadium.

This stadium will allow our grandkids and future generations to participate in a variety of sports.
With no other viable locations and a huge demand for this stadium, I hope it is approved.

I remain opposed to the development at this location. I do believe that a new stadium should be built, however, I cannot support the stadium being built in this location.

I do not support for the following reasons:

I also have serious concerns that Newcastle Basketball cannot afford to build the stadium and will be reliant upon further funding sources. This has been detailed well in a Newcastle Herald.

Lose of green space. Loss of learning opportunities and horrible spot for basketball association. Additionally, basketball has low popularity compared to soccer which is replacing.

This project is the epitome of Newcastle's future.
The focus on multi purpose spaces, inclusivity of all from professional leagues to school based activities, is exactly what the city needs.
The current basketball centre does not come close to meeting the needs and demand for an indoor sports space that would attract high level athletes, let alone provide opportunity or environment to inspire up and coming ones.
The new centre not only promotes positive involvement in sports for all ages, capabilities and multiple sporting codes, but captures the community essence of Newcastle.
The space is clearly very well thought out, with facilities that match the space I.e a lot of bathrooms for such an expansive centre, a space to get drinks and food, creating an all encompassing area for people to spend their time- Therein considering everyone’s needs, and substantial parking and green space.
The centre would match the other facilities Newcastle has for different sporting codes, such as NRL and hockey- that is, high end, modern facilities that showcase the pride and passion Newcastle has for sports and community.

The location of the proposed centre will negatively impact on Lambton High School.
It will be built on an area that currently captures water in severe rain events. With this land taken up by the new structure, flooding will threaten houses.
It will cause congestion in local streets that are already impacted by proximity to the football stadium.
It will reduce the availability of the mixed sports outdoor recreational land that currently exists.

This basketball stadium is taking away green grounds already used for soccer games in winter and cricket in summer. Also take into account the lack of parking when events are held here and at the stadium on site street parking will be packed to the rafters and locals will not be able to park near their homes. Even without this basketball stadium on occasions there is no parking available!

-------------------

I remain vehemently opposed to the development at this location.

I do not support for the following reasons:

- Lack of initial consultation and subsequent poor community consultation in determining the site.

- Loss of green space.

- Loss of playing space for other sporting codes

- Loss of amenity for nearby residents

- Loss of evacuation space, playing space, recreation space for Lambton High School. Lambton HS students will be severely impacted by this change. With 1200 students at the school, this effectively removes the majority of green space for students to be active throughout the day. By limiting outdoor physical activity, you are risking the wellbeing of 1200 children as outdoor physical activity is directly linked to good mental health. Trying to evacuate 1200 students to safety in an emergency on a busy road poses a significant risk that cannot be mitigated with the removal of the green space at the back of the school.

- Traffic issues on Turton Rd from entry and exit of hundreds of vehicles to and from the stadium in what is already a problem when sporting events occur.

I also have serious concerns that Newcastle Basketball cannot afford to build the stadium and will be reliant upon further funding sources. This has been detailed well in the Newcastle Herald.

The proposal had no community engagement of planning location the park is used predominantly by the high school and local sports groups already and the proposal would contest an already congested and heavily used road no to mention the lack of grass that the cockatoos and galahs and corellas use frequently for grass seeds like heavily. It’s a stupid location to put something like this. The OLD basketball stadium sight has more room is out of the way is tucked in so not contesting main roads and there is more green space down that end near the railway.

The assigned area is not suitable, there will be a loss of valuable open green space, traffic is already congested in that area and parking is already scarce. Additional concreted areas will add to pre-existing flood zone.

Make use of the old BHP site, there is plenty of room, a very good arterial road access, add some public transport and it's win win.

Not the right place for this project.
* Flooding is a major issue. Concrete does not drain like green space. Even with drains, as we see at every down pour and flood water drains overflowing.
* Parking is a huge issue- it’s already awful with the knights/jets/any event.
* The school has no green space and no evacuation area- massive safety issue.
* The noise from the build would be hugely disturbing for children trying to learn. No one can concentrate with construction next door, will you compensate poor Atar scores that will no doubt occur?
* Where will the sports clubs currently using the space go?
* Where will residents exercise? Wests use their space fairly solidly across seasons- league/cricket/oztag
* Traffic flow - again, already bad on any sort of sport day this will make it worse again.
This project site was a flippant comment made by the previous Lord Mayor this is not the spot. Move it please.

It’s going to cause huge traffic congestion including using the surrounding suburbs for parking overflow.
Increased crime risk with car break ins and patrons going to watch games and drinking.
Loss of green space is ridiculous. There’s so many other places this could be built or even renovate an existing building. There’s no need for this in the centre of Newcastle.
If it were a general sporting centre that would be different and people in the surrounding area could use it for all sorts.
The report that they can’t afford to construct the stadium is worrying also. If it’s approved we could end up with a half finished eyesore for years to come.

Although I fully support a Sports Centre for Basketball plus sports like Futsal it should not be built here. It’s not fair to build in a place that takes away from other community people & services, as well it’s detrimental to the safety & quality of life for residents. I & so many others object to it being built in a location because-
*Current ovals used by public for exercise for other sports - soccer, cricket, local schools. Why is basketball more important? Why are their facilities being proposed to be removed?
*Traffic & parking already an issue in this area with NRL stadium, centre excellence, hockey etc. This will also adversely affect the residents accessing and parking at their homes
*Green spaces scarce & important in built up city areas so should not be further limited
*History of Flooding is an issue in the area & this will make it worse

There is a sports precinct at Glendale with National quality facilities at the Hunter Sports Centre. There is vacant land near this where there is an old disused overgrown sports oval. Glendale is only 15 minutes from Broadmeadow. Also loads of land near Costco & Bunnings area at Boolaroo

I believe that building the baseball stadium in the proposed location of Blackley Oval would be a detriment to the surrounding community, the environment and safety of drivers.
If built, I believe that not only would there be a loss of green space, there is also a loss of space for other sporting groups, loss of amenity space for the residents that reside within the area but also a loss of a critical evacuation space and recreation space to which Lambton High School students would be primarily affected. It would also affect flooding as the current ovals act as flood overflow and the amount of concrete replacing the grassland would impact residents from Monash road, Gloucester Ave, Duke St and Marina Ave to name a few streets; to add, it would also affect the animals that reside in the general area that use the grass for laying in for birds such as the Masked Lapwings but also other birds that forage.
With concern to the traffic concerns, the road already is bottle-necked from traffic in the afternoons after work and school is over, on game days at the Hunter Stadium, there is a struggle on that road but also on the surrounding roads including Turton road.
