Kingswood Battery Energy Storage System

I STRONGLY OBJECT to the proposed development of the battery storage system.

I support sustainable energy but not at the sacrifice of local residents and community. If this battery plant goes ahead it will impact local neighbours and residents significantly. Home devaluation is a core concern - my friends parents have been told they will lose over 600k on their property if this project goes ahead. Little compensation has been provided to locals. You need to cover FULL property loss and pay them fairly. I'm so disappointed government and industry are NOT appropriately looking after and caring for local residents - particularly neighbouring homes.

This new battery plant will result in environmental and visual pollution. Locals purchased in the area to look out at the natural regional landscape not 100s of mass batteries. The plant needs to be hidden and 'blended' into the environment via a full 3m high (over whatever height the batteries are) blockage wall. The wall will need to have sound proofing features to compensate for the terrible/ 24/7 'buzz' sound the batteries will make. Locals do NOT want to see or hear this plant. I request full landscaping and adult trees be placed around the entire site and blockage wall so that this development can at the very least blend better with our beautiful country landscape.

I'm concerned about what fire mitigation measures are in place in the event of a fire? Are Tamworth firemen equipped with the knowledge, tools and resources to act and put out a mass battery fire? Or will it be too late if a fire were to occur?

I'm concerned about community welfare and stress caused from this project. Mental health is at risk for those most effected and their families. What are you going to do to support the mental health and daily stress now being imposed on neighbouring properties?

I'm highly concerned about the location decision of this plant. It should be relocated further out of town where no neighbour is effected for at least a 1km radius. The impacts on locals are just too damaging. How are we able to put government agenda and profits ahead of local community and well-being? How can we allow people to lose their life savings? How can we allow local neighbours to hear and see noise pollution on a daily basis? If you make LARGE sums from this project at the very least give back to the locals and those most at risk.

Please relocate this plant further out of town.

Why on earth do you intend to build these batteries on fire prone land and so close to people's homes.
It is already known that these batteries attract lightning. They are known to go on fire and release toxic fumes and firefighters cannot put out the fire. As all electrical fires have to be left to burn themselves out.

This development is within 2km of our property, and is in addition to several other renewable energy developments proposed for this area. Current information in relation to noise and vibration expectations is inadequate, including consideration of the collective effects of these developments. Fire risk, given my awareness of problems managing such fires, and its close proximity to a densely populated area. The roads cannot accommodate traffic for these developments, stirring up dust and the surrounding roads being cut off due to flooding. I am also concerned about the contamination of water and soil.

I think this is outrageous that you let a foreign country build a toxic fire prone industrial complex to be built on and around family homes and call it good for the Environment - it’s a sick joke! All this for supplying Tamworth with power for just four hours - and you call it progress- you have got to be kidding.

As per my previous objection to this project, I strongly believe that this BESS is in the wrong spot to close to houses and good farmland & waterways. These batteries have been known to explode & cause much destruction, would you like this facility located within 1km of family home. It is planned to be built on the side of a hill so all the water used for cooling & other things on the site will surely run down hill into the Goonoo Goonoo Creek then run on into other waterways used for humans.

Submission objecting to the Kingswood BESS Project being granted a planning permit or in any way proceeding to construction.
1. This Kingswood BESS will permanently pollute the farmland it is on. The Kingswood BESS is a parasitic Battery complex that operates by taking in electricity at lower prices, hoping it will be able to resell it when a shortfall drives prices higher. It is explained as.
“The intermittent nature of wind and solar resources creates the need for ‘back-up’ capacity to support any supply gaps”.
This statement alone clearly sets out. That by their intermittent and unreliable nature of electricity production, (because of an unreliable supply of ‘weather’ fuel) solar farms and wind farms. Should never be considered as an economic or dependable electricity generator for supplying baseload electricity to a modern electricity grid. To add a BESS to the mix, does not produce one MWh of power and actually loses 16% of the power, having to convert it from AC to DC current going into the BESS. And again converting the current via Inverters from DC to AC current when transferring out of the BESS. This loss via conversion only increases the price to the end user. High prices do as much damage to economies as shortages of supply.
2. This Kingswood BESS is completely unnecessary and worthless. This is because all the Federal and State Net Zero emission goals, Emission Reduction goals and Carbon emission limits on big polluters, are all a waste of money, effort, and will not reduce Global emissions by one iota. The reason is that while Australia’s emissions of Co2 are approximately 1.3% of the World’s emissions at the same time China emits 30% of the World’s emissions and is still growing. Any reduction in Australia’s emissions will be quickly replaced by China’s emissions.
3. Th Kingswood BESS is totally reliant on Climate Change subsidies and mandated energy retailer policies, without which it would never be built. Or if the subsidies, etc are removed this Kingswood BESS will be abandoned. Further if the Kingswood BESS cannot afford the cost of building the HV Transmission necessary to connect to the Grid. It is ridiculous for electricity consumers and taxpayers to have to pay for the connecting HV Transmission Lines.
4. Importantly this Kingswood BESS has not made adequate provision for the outbreak of a wildfire. Firebreaks are grossly inadequate and fixed water tanks are next to useless, particularly in BESS fires. In Victoria CFA fire fighters are refusing to enter Renewable Factories. Water bombers would not water bomb the Kingswood BESS because of the risk of explosions The risk to surrounding rural residents is frightening.
5. As well this Kingswood BESS has made no financial provision for the dismantling and restoration of the site. Or the cost of the disposal of the toxic, Batteries and associated toxic junk. This is why this Kingswood BESS is not a contributor to the electricity generation system or a viable economic proposition and should never be built.

To Whom It May Concerns,
As a Tamworth resident I like to voice my objection to this project. The reason being is because the area where the battery farm is going to be built is too close to the residential and not fit for the purpose. Not only the existence of this battery farm near the residential area will de-value to surrounding properties, it is also unethical to re-zone the area just so to allow the farm to be built.

Furthermore, I am concern about the Foreign owned companies involvement in Australian critical infrastructure is a security threat to our country.

It also has come to my attention that DPIE has been approving these projects on an individual basis as opposed to the cumulative effect of multiple similar projects. These actions appear very sneaky and underhanded.

I support the Kingswood Battery Energy and Storage System , SSD-63207219, located at 744 Burgmanns Lane, Kingswood and I live at Calala within 2 km of this Project.

The project is ideally located . It is situated 1km from the Tamworth Substation which means minimal transmission infrastructure is required . It is also located close to proposed surrounding solar farms. The Project is 8km from the proposed Lambrook Solar Farm, 17km from the proposed Middlebrook Solar Farm, 23 km from the proposed Nottingham Park Solar Farm and 13 km from the proposed Kootingal Solar Farm . The project is also conveniently close to the households of Calala and surrounds which have installed solar panels.

This project will play a vital part in NSW Climate Change Policy Framework to obtain Net Zero by 2050 and to meet the Paris Agreement of maintaining Global Warming to 1.5 degrees centigrade. In fact NSW needs to reach Net Zero by 2030 or earlier according to climate scientists and the UN President who state that there should be no more fossil fuel projects built if we are to maintain Global Warming to 1.5 degreesC.

Decentralised renewable energy production and storage is essential in a just and equitable transition from fossil fuel energy production as it will result in opportunities for innovation in industry , jobs, sport and recreational activities in rural and remote areas which were not available before. This project is located in Northwest NSW 6km from the centre of Tamworth.

This project which will have a capacity of up to 270 Megawatts and provide up to 1,080 Megawatt-hours of battery storage capacity will be important in the storage of clean , cheap renewable energy which is not produced continuously.This battery storage system will play a vital role in replacing the toxic fossil fuel continuous thermal generation of expensive energy.

This project will play an essential role in NSW’S transition to a renewable energy future which is compatible with both the State and Federal Governments future energy policies .

This and all the Battery Storage systems that are wanting to be located in and around the Calala, Loomberah, Kingswood and Tamworth area are in the wrong location.
Most will be built on prime land. Also so close to current built up residential areas. My concern is if an incident happens this is to close to homes and main water/river systems that flow into Tamworths water supply.
Also more traffic coming and going to these locations. Our roads are not built these vehicles and the amount.
I think the planning people need to find a better location for this and not near residential areas.

This project is located within an area of residential growth and is less than 2km from a large and growing residential area.
The project will negatively impact on property values.
There is minimal knowledge of BESS impact on the environment.
How would a BESS of this proposed size be safely managed if a fire were to occur. In the proposed area a fire would travel very quickly in several directions and endanger large suburbs and surrounding rural properties.
It is not suitable to this area.

Being weather dependent is useless, only ensuring it will never provide reliable, cheap power on demand.

Kingswood BESS will never ensure a reliable energy source as it’s reliant on weather dependent, intermittent Wind & Solar that doesn’t work most of the time.
This contaminating Fire hazard will destroy the natural environment & in the nuclear age it will soon become detritus & will have to be removed at great expense to the Local Community - due to it’s toxic, unrecyclable nature.

I object for a few reasons, the first being on the basis of ethics and how we have all been deceived by the company or companies or parties involved in being told incorrect information about closing times for the different bess projects. The second one is about how we have to deal with the noise, environmental impact and potential loss of value to our properties, or even worse destruction due to fire risk, all so that some foreign companies can make money with bad ideas that won’t affect them whatsoever when things go pear shaped. If we are getting charged by the power companies for being responsible and generating a power reserve for them, what is this going to cost down the track, after all the snouts in troughs have had their fill? It’s not very well thought out and as usual the average joe on the street is expected to put up with it.
