We need to support the future of coal mining in this region as it directly affects a vast portion of the new England area with employment opportunities. Myself and my family depend on the project as I work there.

Maules Creek, is a good quality coal resource with high CV and low ash. It makes sense to advance and extend good quality reesources, such as this one and allow other poor quality resource projects to grandfather. If Maules creek is not extended then this will increase the pressure on extending the lifetime of other less desirable projects in the future to meet coal demand.
Additionally, Maules creek provides significant benefits to the communities of Tamworth, Gunnedah and Narrabri that cannot be replaced by other existing industries.

Approval of the Maules Creek Coal Mine Continuation Project is vital to ensure the ongoing contribution of the operation to regional employment, local economies, and the secure supply of high-quality thermal coal to global energy markets. The continuation will allow Maules Creek to maintain production levels beyond its current approvals, securing hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for local communities and supporting critical service industries in the Gunnedah Basin region.

The project also plays a key role in supporting NSW’s export economy, generating significant royalties and taxes that contribute to public infrastructure, education, and health services. Environmentally, the continuation project has been designed with strict mitigation and management plans in place, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory standards and community expectations.

Without approval, the mine would be forced to ramp down prematurely, leading to economic loss, community disruption, and a missed opportunity to deliver value in a responsible, well-regulated manner.

The Maules creek project is a major local employer, I do think the local relocation incentive should be apart of the agreement as it has in the past to further support the local economy considering it is a rural area.

I personally think the extension project is a very good for the community and jobs in the area. There is over 900 people employed at maules creek mine, a lot of the people from local communities around the area who currently employed including myself.

The continuation of maules creek project has my full support it offers job opportunities and skill training.
With out this project our smaller communities such as Manilla, Carrol and Boggabri will be financially hit the most. The maules creek project continuation offers families who work within the region to work close to home instead of having to become a fifo worker. Which means money stays within the region and NSW.

Maules Creek Coal Mine is a large operation that supports hundreds of local jobs and brings a lot of money into the region. It has plenty of coal left and can keep running for many more years. The mine is known for strong safety practices and is working hard to protect the environment through land rehabilitation.

By allowing the mine to stay open until 2044, we can keep people employed, support local businesses, and make the most of the resources already available. The mine is also helping restore the land so it can be used for nature again in the future.

While Australia is moving toward cleaner energy, coal still plays an important role in making sure we have reliable power and keeping industries like steel running. Maules Creek helps support that balance, making it a smart choice to keep the mine open during the energy transition.

I moved to Gunnedah in 2023 for work at Maules Creek mine. Since starting my employment I have secured a home loan so if the mine does not continue I am in danger of losing my home
