I agree with the mine extension as it is a vital component in this towns future. Not going ahead will mean an end to the town and many of its inhabitants will need to find work elsewhere.

The mine life extension is extremely important to West Wyalong and surrounding townships for survival. The personnel employed at the mine come from many places surrounding the mine and inject much needed funds back into the community. The township of West Wyalong would not have prospered during the many years of drought as the community is largely an agricultural based community. It has enabled the families to stay together rather than the sons and daughters being forced to leave their homes searching for jobs. The environmental policy on site is second to none. The extension will enable jobs and community life that would otherwise not exist,

I support the extension of Cowal Gold Mine Extension Modification 13, as outlined in the proposal.
As a local business owner, former employee and a person interested in the economic and social development of the area, sustaining a well managed and responsible progression of the mine should be a high priority of both the local and state government departments considering this application. Confidence in the district and further afield has been low, and until recent developments from the mine, the tune had become quite pessimistic about future employment, house prices and general instability in the shire. One only needs to look on realestate.com.au annual property trends to see the peaks and troughs (volatility), and further back to pre-construction to see the dramatic negative trending slide in value of property. This is not the only measure clearly, but many people in this town a far more prosperous, plus more savvy business wise as suppliers, having to meet the requirements of world class miners makes them able to grow their business outside the town in industries with far lower barriers to entry. It's not difficult to justify the benefits to all concerned, and like other business owners, we would welcome a continued emphasis on competitive local supply in the years ahead.
Other than economic benefits alone, I have spent time at the mine, working with staff and observing management of key Health, Safety and Environmental standards in action. Cowal sets high standards and meets them with well qualified and passionate people in delivery. A fair question to ask would be, does management have the capacity to "do they do what they say they're going to do?". From this perspective, given the ISO and other certifications the mine holds, the answer appears to be "yes". These certifications and standards take a large investment of money intent, and human energy - especially for third party verification. Further, logic may allow one to conclude if it didn't meet HSE and design constraints and make Economic sense - management would not be proposing it in a costly extension modification.
Given the demonstrated capacity of the mine to deliver on productivity and its license to operate, I imagine it would be hard to find a major project development in the state with less risk in both quantifiable and knowable risk (with many years historical evidence to support it). I would like to see the mine continue to improve (as it always has), while it continues to responsibly operate through this extension and hopefully, more to come.

I am very pleased to hear about the Cowal Gold mine extension. As a business owner I am hoping this gets the go ahead as there will be more people employed and then there would be more money spent in the town. I only hope that they employ locals and not fly in fly out employees. Also my husband works at the mine and it would be great if he has employment locally for these extra years.

I have been an employee at the Cowal Gold mine now for 14 years and this extension I am hoping that I am able to keep my employment local as my wife has a business and my family live locally.

I would like to see the extension of the Cowal Mine as my daughter has a business in town and my son-in-law works at the mine. Without the extension they would have to move and I do not know how I would cope without them here.
