Dear sirs,
I am writing to express my objection to mining in the Pilliga. To mine and carry out CSG extraction pumping chemicals into the earth in this way is risking contamination to the underground water of the Great Artisian Basin and so many farming and rural communities rely on this water. Any risk of contamination is too high a risk.
Also to allow mining and CSG extraction to use so much groundwater in their operations and pay so little if anything for it is plain WRONG.
I trust you will take these points into consideration in making your decision.
With thanks.

I am not in favor of a large scale gas extraction project in the Pillaga State Forest. Primarily I believe that a state forest should not be industrialized to the extent that this project intends to do so. I think there would be too much damage done to the natural environment. Obviously gas is essential and extraction will continue but areas opened for extraction should not include forests which have significant value such as this one. I am pleased that the State Govt has put regulatory controls in place but even with these the State Forest would be compromised and must be protected and excluded from exploration.

I object to Santos' exploitation of the Pilliga in mining for coal seam gas.
Their record to date gives me no confidence that they will prevent:
. contamination of ground water with deleterious effects on the surrounding environment.
. adverse effects on the Great Artesian Basin through deep drilling & use of toxic chemicals.
. destruction of large tracts of NSW's largest inland forest.
. devastation of wildlife, including threatened species.
If government were to preserve already extant gas supplies for domestic use, the much touted "shortage" would be shown as the furphy it undoubtedly is.

We must wean ourselves off the addiction to fossil fuels for economic, environmental and social reasons. And we must do this now. Coal seam gas extraction is not sustainable and we are unsure at this stage of the potential damage incurred.
