There is no gas crisis in Australia. There will be a food crisis before here is a gas one. This will be caused by these 850 unnecessary, polluting gas projects and others in Australia. Once farm land is polluted it is very hard to restore it - especially if deep underground is polluted and toxic.
Money and greed are the obvious instigators of this very bad plan.
The land holders and owners should be able to put a stop to this......so where is sensible law and Govt?

Australia needs to be moving away from environmentally harmful resources and investing in renewable energy alternatives. SANTOS is heavily invested in the energy market and has the potential to lead environmentally sustainable developments that will prove to be beneficial for both SANTOS and Australia.

Furthermore, it is well recognised that a reliance on coal and gas is going to lead to economic stagnation as the countries that Australia rely on for exporting these commodities are transitioning away towards greener alternatives. Australia should be exporting these environmental solutions rather than the short-sighted and short-lived gains that will come from coal and gas.

I am concerned that the Pilligo forest North NSW will further be further environmentally exploited by the Santos proposal to expand coal seam gas operations in the area.

As Australians, we must place a real value on our forests and wild-life places and protect such from irreversible damage.

Firstly let be begin by pointing out that while I am currently living in WA I have properties in NSW and highlight that my view (regardless of residential address) is just as valid as anyone else. There are numerous objections points that I have with this Project.

Firstly the proponent cannot eliminate risk to the water of the Great Artesian Basin. Santos can not even present an ALARP justification for this. Santos have already contaminated groundwater (http://www.smh.com.au/environment/santos-coal-seam-gas-project-contaminates-aquifer-20140307-34csb.html #sthash.sXwbB78g.dpuf) they have no community licence and should not be allowed to progress with this application based on their past history

According to the Wilderness society there is an average of 96% of farmers and the local community are opposed to this project.

Fugitive emissions have not been adequately accounted for in the submission. Methane is 72% more powerful than CO2 in terms of its greenhouse effect. I believe that this alone is grounds to reject this proposal. Who will monitor the wells for fugitive emissions? how often? and who will monitor the surrounding land for these emissions. This is a MAJOR omission form the approval documentation to date.

In short. this Project is not required and unwanted. I urge the Department to lead by example and reject this Project. there are better, cheaper ways to secure our future energy needs without risking our precious groundwater and adding to our emissions footprint.

I am writing with regards to the Narrabri Gas Project where Santos is asking to develop 850 coal seam gas wells in the Pilliga Forest.

I am strongly against this development. The potential damage to the environment, to our ground water, rivers and streams is an unacceptable risk.

Australia has enormous gas reserves off shore, we do not need coal seam gas in Australia.

In addition, history shows that most of these companies walk away when the gas wells run dry and leave a terrible environmental mess behind them.

Please do not agree to this proposal.

To whom it may concern,
We the people of Australia demand that
no more gas wells be dug into the Piliga forest.
We demand that the Australian government listen to the wishes of the people that it is supposed to serve & refuse to allow any more gas wells to be dug into this forest area.
The risk of contaminating the Artesian basin is too great, please desist !

the jury is in. CSG mining pollutes and poisons ground water, and no matter how careful the employees are and how considered your safety particles are accidents and mistakes happen-- no matter what.

I strongly object to the Narrabri Gas Project. I feel these days decisions are being made without enough (for most of us citizens) considerations for things like risk to water resources in this case the Great Artesian Basin and the Murray-Darling Basin, I believe water resources should take up most priority in consideration when it come to approval of projects such as these. We can not survive on contaminated water, our wild life suffers and our own well being. It also seems obvious that the locals objection (including farmers) is very vocal and evident and the Pilliga is one of 15 nationally listed `biodiversity hotspots' and is vital to the survival of threatened species. The destruction that coal seam gas leaves in its wake is well documented, and with this history lesson of damage of vital habitat and threat to the survival of endangered species, why aren't we learning a thing??

I object to the Narrabri Gas Project involving the development of a coal seam gas field and the construction and operation of gas processing and water treatment facilities, because there is no way they can guarantee their operations will have no ill effect upon the current natural environment and water. Every move they make is intrusive and the artesian basin water could be polluted extensively.
Accidents do happen and this is too fragile and risky to have any accidents.

We do not want or need this coal seam gas drilling which has the potential to cause devastating, irreversible damage to our underground water system and the associated environment. It would be irresponsible to proceed with the known dangers of such a proposal -

I object Santos's Narrabri Gas Project on the following grounds:

There is no economic need for NSW to support the project. NSW can easily provide the energy needed for sustainable growth in the future by introducing clean energy.
Enough natural gas is also available from existing sources in Australia.
The mining of coal seam gas would endanger the aim to limit global warming to below 2 degrees celsius as committed to by the federal government.
The introduction of this dangerous industry would endanger the artesian basin and the natural heritage of the Pilliga.

We drove through the area on a family day trip to the Warrumbungles and Mount Kaputar. Amazing area that must be preserved.

We need strong leadership in this country and this is a perfect opportunity for someone to here the call and show their strength by saying 'No!'.

I vote Liberal but will swing to Labor if this passes.

Oil and gas company Santos is pushing on with its unpopular proposal to place 850 coal seam gas wells in the heart of the Pilliga forest in North West New South Wales.

Last week, Santos released its Environmental Impact Statement for public comment. This came after months of rhetoric and nonsense by the coal seam gas industry and the Turnbull Government about the looming gas supply 'crisis'--despite Australia now being the world's largest exporter of gas.
Citizens Australia-wide as well as dedicated members of the local community to say no to this ridiculous proposal.

We would like to know, who is going to examine these findings independently, and then who will police Santos to make sure environmental laws are not breached? And I don't mean the actual police with 'Sponsored by Santos' stickers on their cruisers. Time and again this weak approach has failed.

Any pursuit of the fossil fuel industry is flogging a dead horse. Times are changing and the world is turning to renewables. More people in some countries are now employed in the renewable industry than in fossil fuels while Australia and it's people are literally being held hostage by this government. To the government, their relationship and the kickbacks they personally achieve from their dirty relationships with corporations are by far more important than actually doing the jobs as public servants we pay their salaries for!

Australia wants protect nature and ensure a safe climate future for all Australians, not poison the groundwater with undisclosed fracking chemicals and pay for clean up of industrial accidents. Corporations are fine with plunging the environment whilst taking all of their profits off shore AS WELL AS paying no tax, but when it comes to cleaning up their environmental messes we have seen, time and again, they are nowhere to be found and it's yet again the public coffers that are emptied to pay for their disaster. There is nothing in this proposal for the citizens of this country, in fact we stand to lose.
Thank you.
