Restart of Redbank Power Station

I object to the burning of biomass for electricity at Redbank power station in the Hunter. Burning wood makes more carbon dioxide which will only exacerbate our climate crisis. I am also very concerned about loss of habitat due to land clearing. Thank you.

NSW desperately needs base load power to allow the transition to renewables by firming the intermittent nature of renewable power into reliable 24hr power. Redbank Power station is an existing asset that can be quickly restarted to support this need. With the use of biomass this is effectively a carbon positive project. It will also create jobs in the Hunter Valley .

I am writing to express my strong support for Verdant Earth Technologies Limited's initiative to restart the Redbank Power Station using biomass as a sustainable fuel source. This project is a critical step towards addressing our energy crisis in an environmentally responsible manner, promising near net-zero CO2 emissions and a move away from coal towards green electricity.

Located in the Hunter Valley, the Redbank Power Station will not only be a pioneer in green electricity production in the region but also a key provider of continuous, reliable green power in NSW. This initiative represents an invaluable addition to our energy grid, enhancing stability with sustainable energy.

Simply a must for the NSW Government and the people of NSW. The simple reason being that this facility will be one of the largest green baseload renewable energy providers in NSW and the only existing facility capable of providing continuous green 24/7 power with near net-zero CO2 emissions, adding to grid stability. Restarting Redbank Power Station would be an important, logical step in resolving the energy crisis in a responsible, environmentally considerate manner - Not to mention the many jobs that this project would ensure.

I support the restart of Redbank Power Station as part of the transition to a clean energy future.

It is my understanding that Verdant will not use any waste residue from native forests.
Their plan is to use the waste residue from invasive species and where available from road clearings.
I believe their longer term plan is to grow our own quick rotation crops and continue with the use of invasive species.

In a time when we are looking for energy generation, and in particular, in any form that is in any way environmentally friendly electric generation, Redbank is a definite facility to support.
Redbank has the physical plant installation already there, the electrical reticulation already in place to the Kurri and Singleton exchanges, etc so is a 'no brainer' to support.
Redbank has proved to local farmers, residents and businesses its ability to coexist amicably and therefore again it is a 'no brainer' for supporting and getting this facility up and running again.

I have read the proposal to restart the Redbank Power Station, and support the project without reservation. The repurposing of the power station, to generate green electricity, without the environmental consequences of existing conventional, base load, coal fired power represents an exceptional step towards the State of New South Wales achieving a net zero emissions goal by 2050. The restart is also timely in the wake of looming closures of coal fired power stations in NSW, which are expected to result in electricity shortages from 2027 onward. This is on the back of recently announced forecast of gas shortage which is expected to impact the east coast of Australia, and more specifically, NSW, Victoria and South Australia in 2028. These shortages are already growing and colliding with delays in building clean energy projects such as Redbank. The State is running out of options, and needs to support this project from the first principles of responsible Government.

This project is critical to ensure energy supply for NSW in the near future.  We have previously been asked to reduce electricity usage during peak periods in summer and unless projects like this are approved our elderly and vulnerable are likely to be impacted.
• As existing power stations come offline there will be skilled jobs lost that can be easily transferable to this facility – keeping jobs and $ in NSW.
• The project will also contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions from the energy sector.

The proposed restart of the Redbank Power Station is a critical demonstration project which re-comissions existing infrastructure, including transmission lines, to assist Australia's transition from fossil-fuel dependency. The use of sustainable locally-sourced biomass fuels and the surrender of the existing approval for the use of coal provide a compelling example of the ingenuity we need to provide for our future power requirements. Whilst politicians argue about the viability of nuclear versus solar & wind and defend gas industry incumbents, this business has quietly invested in what is immediately possible, and must be supported.
Redbank will stand as a powerful example of how Australians can address our power needs and will inspire similar projects. It will keep jobs and families in the Hunter Valley, and will contribute to building the local community.
Critically, as cited in the Environmental Impact Statement, this will be achieved with "near zero CO2 emissions equivalent".
I am wholly supportive of this intelligent, low-carbon, forward-looking project.

This is one of the few projects that can have a significant positive impact on our CO2 emissions in a relatively quick timeframe and make us less reliable on fossil fuels.
It also makes sense in the fact that it is reusing/repurposing significant existing infrastructure.

It will provide an additional path for landholders in our area to be able to manage biomass from the control and management of Invasive Native Scrub in our area. A far better use for the biomass than burning in the paddocks. Will add enormous economic benefit to our local community

Redbank power station is an asset that can be used for renewable power generation.

The Redbank Power Station/ Verdant Earth development plans are crucial for local economic growth, job creation, and infrastructure enhancement. Its alignment with environmental regulations, potential community benefits, and incorporation of innovative technologies make it a compelling proposal deserving of support by the local community and Council. I have no qualms in giving this project my 100% support.

This project would be of significant benefit not just to the Hunter region but to other areas where various suppliers are based that Redbank would need to draw upon during upgrades to the plant and then day to day operations.
Its a great plan that Redbank have, and finally someone thinking outside of the square like other parts of the world have been doing for years.

This biomass to energy project can and should be an example of how this type of project can be organised to make a difference in the transition from coal-fired plants to renewables. Growing fuel crops on marginal lands (such as mined over land in the Hunter) and providing a good kick to the economic well-being of the region are two good reasons to support this project. Baseload energy is a requirement for living and well-functioning Australian communities. The project is a natural transition for a disused, but high quality energy plant, and would support the green energy transition throughout the Hunter and NSW.
