I oppose this on the grounds that I live in a heritage listed area and am concerned that the pristine nature of Gloucester will be compromised.

I strongly oppose the Rocky Hill Mine proposal on the following grounds. The mine will impact the whole of the township and would increase the "At Risk" factor for the very young the elderly, and already health impaired members of the community. Studies have shown that specifically children who within 1.5 kms of the mine, have shown triple the rate of asthma . Our school and preschool children would be within this 5km zone for 30 hours per week. It is proven that fine particles from open cut mines remain in the air for days and in windy conditions would turn this town into a dust bowl . To say nothing of the noise pollution from the blasting and the additional fumes this would produce . Not to mention the fact that coal trains are permitted to make their long journey to off load with uncovered containers. Add to this the devastation of the scars it would leave on the surrounding areas of this now beautiful town. I for one do not want to look out of my window and see a gaping hole where a magnificent mountain range once was. Lastly I cannot understand how any government who signed off on an agreement in 2000 and ratified that agreement in 2010 is permitted, by law, to totally ignore said agreement. Namely that Gloucester and it's surrounds are zoned as a food producing environmental area that cannot be touched by the ravages of a mining or any other commercial venture. One can only surmise that the government really does not care about the people it governs,( and I use that term loosely) only about the money it can line it's own pockets with.
