Submission re: proposed Sutton Forest Sand Quarry
The following significant risks and operational hazards are too severe
for the quarry to go ahead.
- significant risk of jeopardizing waterways that feed into Sydney's
water catchment.
- the size (extraction area, processing and stockpiling area) is
unsuitable for this populated community with risks regarding noise,
dust, and lighting,
- the local infrastructure (and local people) cannot handle the trucks
and other operations ("The quarry would operate from 4am on Mondays to
midnight on Fridays and dispatch products 24 hours a day.")
- the potential damage to the environment and ecosystem is untenable
and irreversible including the clearing of vegetation and the
decimation of an important wildlife corridor sustaining endangered
species.
- An environmental impact statement (EIS) cites a risk of
contaminating groundwater and reducing the water availability for
agriculture and domestic use.
- communication with the community has been very poor and so it seems
has the risk assessment and EIS.

My home on 5 acres backs onto the proposed quarry. I will be subjected to
lies and pollution from the quarry in particular the deadly fine
particles of polluting dust that causes silicosis. I also think that
the new owner of the land on which the proposed quarry sits is going
to use an area beside my house to move trucks in and out of the
quarry.
I bought in this area 14 years ago and have steadily improved the land
and all that hard work will be wasted if a quarry is built on my back
doorstep.
The above points are the reason I strongly object the the approval of
a quarry in this area.

We have just had and area at the front of declared an important
environmental area for koalas and black cockatoos now we have the area
at the back of apply for permission to build a quarry. It seems the
environment ministers office and planning ministers office
arenycommunicating. How can you have these two things co-existing
within such a small area. The wildlife rely on the swamp area for food
and protection.
Another point is the deadly dust that is not visible to the eye but is
proven to cause silicosis
. I have grandchildren and you nephews and nieces who regularly visit
- how unfair to say to them sorry you can't come as the quarry behind
is toxic.
We live here for the peaceful ambience and rural lifestyle. We enjoy
seeing the wildlife around and do not want the quarry to be built and
change this.

I strongly OPPOSE the Sutton Forest Quarry proposal. This is a quiet
rural residential area where the proposed extraction and processing of
sand will lead to widespread environmental damage, impacting on the
flora and fauna of the area and the lives of not only the local
residents but those in the greater region. There are far too many
impacts environmentally and socially to accept this proposal. This is
not the place for a large sand mine.

I strenuously object to one of Australia's biggest sand mines being built
on the boundary of Penrose Park, just metres from the Sacred Grotto.
Penrose Park attracts thousands of national and international pilgrims
a year. It is a place of peace and tranquility and quiet contemplation
and has been for decades. For this peace and quiet to be ruined bt
crass commercialism is unconscionable.
I am extremely concerned about this huge mine the border of Penrose
Park. The mine proposed is a 47 hectare open-cut pit (about the size
of Penrose Park) to 39 metres below the water table, which will reduce
and pollute the water supply of Penrose Park and its neighbours.
Noise, blasting and light pollution 24 hours a day will ruin the peace
and tranquility and interupt the worship activities at Penrose park.
Dust will affect health and damage shrines and other buildings.
Clearing 63 hectares of native bush will harm the native flora and
fauna and critically block this section of the Great Western Wildlife
Corridor.

I am submitting my OPPOSITION to the Sutton Forest Quarry Proposal. Sand
mining operations are out of place in this native bush/ rural/
residential area. The deforestation, habitat destruction and
biodiversity erosion due to a sand mine in this area can not be
underemphasised. The "extraction techniques" of " ripping, pushing,
loading and haulage" (EIS Executive Summary) have no place in the
quiet rural, residential setting that is the proposed site. Mining and
its associated activities in this area will be responsible for
irreversible environmental and social damage .

I am opposed to this project. I visit this area 1-2 times per year for 2
weeks holiday to spend time with family and friends in Sutton Forrest.
The most concerning aspects are the increased airborne sand and dust
and truck traffic, changing the character of a wonderful area. This
project is far too close farms, community business projects, excellent
successful new restaurants and schools. I will support any reasonable
legal action to oppose it.

everyone for help. There's a proposal to destroy 67.9 Hectares (a
tonne) of bushland RIGHT ON THE DOORSTEP OF MY GRANDPARENT'S FARM,
making way for a huge sand mine and dumping site.
Please give us 30 seconds. Hit this link..
http://www.majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au/index.pl?action=view_job&job_id=6334
then copy and past these words into the submission box..

My OPPOSITION to the proposed large sand quarry at Sutton Forest is based
on many social, environmental and conservation and ethical factors.
The native flora and flora will be severely affected. Conservation of
our unique species should be paramount Our world is constantly under
threat due to excessive resource consumption. There are limited
natural resources and once we, as inhabitants, exceed the threshold
level of the earth system, irreversible consequences will follow.

We know that aquifers throughout the ditrict are being drained by
underground mining. This huge hole will be no different in its

No to an industrialised lanscape.

There are many varied reasons why I am in opposition of the Sutton Forest
Sand Mine. We moved to the country and rural areas for a reduction in
pollution - especially as our children have respiratory illnesses.
There is strong research that supports the effects as air born dusts
carried by winds from the sand mine. We are also concerned for the
negative effects on our lifestyle with additional noise, blasting and
light pollution . It will increase heavy trucking on the highway -
that already struggles with increasing fatalities due to truck
accidents . Most imperative to the community as a whole the removal of
the sandstone and its vital role in filtering water. It will have
devastating effects on the native bush of our wildlife corridor.
Please STOP this MINE and FILL TIP. We are rural people that live in
the country and love the current environment that we live in. We are
people of the land , that love our land and our rural way of life .
PLEASE PLEASE STOP THIS MINE .
