Building a new house from the ground up can be an exciting venture, offering the chance to customise your future home to your exact specifications and see your ideas come to life. It also involves a lot of decision making and potential pitfalls along the way – turning what might have seemed like a straightforward project into something more complex.
That’s why the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure created myHome Planner. Our step-by-step guide contains key resources from across NSW Government to help you plan, design, approve and build a new house. From buying land through to move-in day, we’ll walk you through the entire process and help you make more informed decisions at every stage of the build.
Our progress
March 2023
myHome Planner goes live with an end-to-end building guide for project homes, along with easy-to-navigate information on zoning and planning controls and links to documents you’ll need to apply for planning approvals.
December 2023
We follow up with an additional step-by-step guide to completing a knockdown rebuild. Designed for anyone wanting to demolish an existing house and build a new home on the same land, the new task-based format lets you check off each item as you complete it. myHome Planner remembers this information to help you keep track of what you’ve accomplished.
Plus, there are articles to help simplify the decision-making process – such as how to select a builder and questions you should ask before signing a contract.
