Former Corowa Bowling Club - change to Public Building (Council purposes)

The proposal seeks to amend Corowa LEP 1989 for Lot 541 DP 1152549 Bridge Road Corowa to allow the use of the former Corowa Bowling Club building for a public administration building to accommodate Corowa Shire Council and related public uses (library, tourist information, civic centre, community meeting rooms, Council Chambers, art gallery, RTA office, Rural Service Centre and Landcare office). The proposal is to change the use and reuse the existing building and to undertake internal modifications. There are no additions to the building proposed.The current zoning of the site is part 6(a) (Public Open Space Zone) and part 6(b) (Private Open Space Zone) that prohibits the use of the building for public building purposes. In the Planning Proposal the Council submits that the subject land should be rezoned to Zone No. 3(a) (Commercial Zone) however Council urgently needs to achieve the ability to use the building and is not concerned about the mechanism used to achieve this objective.
